Yea! I have a couple of seedlings blooming!

Finally, a couple of my one-year old seedlings bloomed today. I have lots of scapes so I am excited about the possibilities on the other 133.

Both of these are crosses from My Darling Clcmentine X Spectral Elegance and is their first flower opening ever.

The first (My Darling Clementine X Spectral Elegance #3) is a small blossom, about 4" on a short scape of 10", but the foliage is also short. Hope the next blossom has the 3rd petal the same size as the others. I like the edge on this one.

The second seedling has a 5" bloom on 13" scape and the foliage is also short as it is on all 15 of this cross.

Comments welcome - what is good, bad, etc. since I am new to raising seedlings and may not observe everything that more experienced daylily enthusiasts observe.

Give them time Ann, you'll probably see lots of improvement with the next blooms. I love the edge on the first but ruffles and the coloring on the 2nd is gorgeous to me. The lighter midribs just set off the lemon yellow color.
Be sure and share your other seedling blooms when you get them. Isn't it glorious fun to see your babies blooming? LOL

Wow, I love the color. The first one is just beautiful. Is that green to yellow to pink coming from the middle of the flower(sorry don't know the technical name) or just my eyes?

Chris, I think it has a bit of sculpting too. The cream eye, the beautiful pink eye and the fluffy ruffle and tiny edge makes it all fit together. It's really a big bloom too. Over 6". When I get excited about a seedling, it always changes though. It's had 3 blooms and has 3 or 4 more buds. That's pretty good for a first ever. Remember the lightly watermarked rose one I had last year and year before? I ask because it's one you really liked. I moved it in the fall and it's really stunted. I'm glad you like my seedling...Ellie

Linda, she is always a beauty. Sometimes she poly's and then she is an eyeful for sure.. Debra, I have Mulberry Connection, Savannah Debutante, Tangerine Twist, Dublin Elaine, Tommie Lee Joiner,and Scatterbrain. I may have oters but I can't think what they are. I do have some new scapes coming on several doubles. Val, I can't say enough about BPR. The only thing she has going against her ( in my book ) is that she is a diploid. There isn't anything wrong with them , mind you, it's just that all the dls I like to cross are tets so I can't use her... Thanks all...Ellie

Most of my 1st year seedlings are short, too. Their low stature is most likely due to their youth, for they are only 8 months old. One is very tall. The blooms seem to evolve from one to the next, also.

Very nice! And, yes, as pretty as they are now, they should improve next year, too - including the scape length. I hope you will show us more photos later on.

That second bloom is a beauty for a yellow... nice substance and texture it looks like! Nice that it is two shades of lemon yellow... unusual. How's the bud count and branching doing? Congrats Ann! Good work!

Very nice.. I too love the color on the second better but that ruffle on the first is wonderful. I learned my lesson about hasty judgements and have been super pleased with most of my second year blooms even when I wasn't so sure the first time a seedling bloomed. I am just a hobby gardener so I don't have thousands of seedlings to evaluate -- making time my friend.I would be proud of both of those.. : )
