And I agree....It's the best cottage garden when the birds, and the bees/butterflies and even the frogs decide to call it home....

We purchased a bluebird house four years ago. Dutifully, placed it in what we thought was an ideal location. No bluebirds. So we moved it, to what we believed to be an idealER location. Still no blue birds, but someone else decided to nest in it for the first time and we are delighted. The chickadees and sparrows are beautiful too. As are the finches.

I love the house wren singing all day long. He always sounds so happy. How so much loud singing can come out of such a little bird is beyond me.

I soo agree also. Aren't little wrens and chickadees fun to watch....my "children" think we are old people cuz we enjoy the birds so much now. What would a cottage garden be without life along with the beauty. Bees and butterflys included.

We have spent most of the rainy weekend watching and photographing the birds on the Jelly Porch. I counted the pair of House Wrens, 5 different Baltimore Orioles, a pair of Cardinals and of course the many hummingbirds at their feeder. I almost forgot the pair of House Finches who have joined the group that likes grape jelly.

It is fun to watch how each behaves. I don't know if the wrens are choosing this nest(I placed a gourd house up high in the corner) or another somewhere else. They aren't here daily, but always return. They are very mean to the other birds. The male orioles are mean to the juvenile males. The female redbird is more adventurous than the timid male and comes directly to the jelly; he hesitates a few times before flying down.

The bluebirds have nested in the martin house; no martins this year; also in another blue bird house. A pair of Brown Thrashers have returned for several years to the east side yard and I am sure nest there someplace.

I have begun seeing the gorgeous Blue Buntings this week both at the seed feeder and ground feeding.

Lots to watch.

My bluebird babies have grown up and left the house. The mockingbirds are still here. No Chickadees though. The silly wrens seem to prefer plants to houses.

By the way, Park Seeds had the a pretty good buy on a birdhouse as a web special. I think it was $15.99. I bought one like it before, and it is just a white plastic house with a wood roof. the plastic looks like wood too.

I can't fit any more birdhouses in my property. I already have them everywhere. I like to give the birds a choice LOL!

I do wish I had bluebirds. But I have never even seen a real bluebird in my life, only pictures or on TV.
