A photo period question for Al

Not too long ago Al wrote that in in terms of leafing out, putting on buds, etc figs responded more to photo period, the length of daylight, than to the intensity of light they received. The days are now getting longer; a fig in a warm environment would be tempted to leaf out and start growing.

This causes me to wonder about the figs many of us have stored in our garages. Here in OK we are three months from green-up, but we will have days below freezing and days when it may reach seventy degrees or higher before then.

I have to be in and out of my garage several times each day. If I open the door on a bright sunny February day when the temperature is 65F the trees are going to think it is spring.

My question is this; Will the trees benefit from being kept in darkness--covered with a tarp, perhaps????
