wanted: new winter sowing round robin!

Hi everyone!

I am attempting to organize my first "Round Robin" (RR) so please be patient with me if I botch anything up.

I would like to do a RR only with seeds that are HARVESTED FROM WINTER SOWN flowers. For anyone unfamiliar with Winter Sowing, take a peek at the WS forum by clicking here > Winter Sowing Forum. For those of us that have done Winter Sowing, we know that seeds harvested from Winter Sown plants are much hardier than store bought seeds or seeds harvested from direct sown plants.

If you will be away on holidays anytime from now until mid-February, it may be advisable NOT to participate in this RR in order for the smooth-flowing of the package from person to person. If you desperately want to be part of this RR and WILL be away, I might be able to work something out as to where I put you in the route of the RR.

So here is the plan for this RR:

Number of participants: 10 ONLY

Â Â ÂNumber of seed packets: 5

Â Â ÂI would prefer if each seed packet could be different than the rest but if that is not possible, duplicates will have to do.

Â Â ÂPlease post your desire to be part of this RR directly in this thread.

Â Â ÂClick on my member name and send me an email with your name and your mailing address. Please include BOTH your real name and your GardenWeb member name so I know who you are.

Â Â ÂAs soon as I have received the first 10 respondents for this RR, I will post the list of participants in this thread. At the same time I will put the order of the mailing route.

Â Â ÂAll seeds must be harvested from your OWN Winter Sown plants during the past year so that seeds are fresh and viable. Please make absolutely certain that the seeds are dried so that there won't be any mold problems.

Â Â ÂI will mail out the RR box with the first five packets of seeds to the first person on the RR route. Once you receive the package, make your selections from the packets and replace with the same amount of packets. Should you wish to add more Winter Sown seeds, please feel free to do so.

Â Â ÂOnly forward seeds to the next particpant. DO NOT add any other objects to the package as this will be unfair to the following participants that have to pay for the additional postage.

I will include address labels for everyone in the original shipment. When you are ready to ship the RR on to the next participant, just affix their address label on the package. Please don't change the return address. If it should happen that our RR gets lost in the mail, it will be returned to me hopefully and that is why we need to leave my return address on the package.

I will also include the little plastic re-sealable bags with a blank label on each one. Please print clearly on it the common name of your flower AS WELL AS the botanical name if you know it.

OK! Whew! I think that is everything. So I'm going to post this now and lets get started! Hopefully with 10 members in this RR, the final recipient should have the RR by mid February.

I'm hoping this will work... being a newbie at Round Robins and all!

Hi all... I replied to a message I recieved in my email and I thought the reply would be posted on this board, but I see it is not here. If it does turn up, forgive the double post..... "Gosh I had no idea that this (my original post) would cause a bit of "fuss" if I can use that word and no one gets upset. I just thought that a swap might be done, (and) that it was not too early to "think" about doing it and would host no problem becasue I had the time. Someone else suggested I might want to take over another persons. Let me say I am not looking to step on any ones toes, and certainly would rather start "my own" if it takes the hassel out of things, so to speak due to my original posting. I just kinda feel if there are folks that want to think about doing a swap now, and want to swap with me and others that I would host, because I am retired and have the time. Nancy. PS... I might add I don't look at this as being "my own", it is just a figure of speech. I am happy to join a swap, if some one else wants to host it. Or I can put in the time and do it. It really makes no difference to me. I don't think there should be any feelings of toes being stepped on or hurt feelings. We are not children right? If someone has shown they are responsibe and can do this fine, if however another person starts one, a person should not be offended. At some point in our lives we all want to "step up and be noticed" I think in one way or another. And this is a way for some folks to have that notice, and there is nothing wrong with that. The thing that is honorable in the effort, is the "carring it thru to the end (or till the seeds come up.. hee hee..)", not many of us can do that. So, as far as I am concerned... I have seeds and if there is a round robin, called Winter sow or "put it in the ground and grow it"... I don't much care. I am simply interested in a swap. Have a nice day all.

Oh man! You guys were feeding dat Robin a little too much for her waistline! lol Robin landed here yesterday morning just as I was leaving for work. I managed to delay leaving long enough to rip open the package and stare at all the goodies! This was a LOT of fun and I sure learned a lot. I may do another RR some day but will have to make some changes to accommodate what I've learned. Thank you all for participating!! This RR took exactly 8 weeks to travel from coast to coast. You all should take a bow for keeping things speeding along. I now will get my Winter Sowing started - I was waiting for this package before I start my planting. I have to do a LOT of research about some of these seeds... never heard of some of them before. I am SO excited about getting the Kiss-Me-Over-the-Garden-Gate! I have been wanting that plant! and some of the fragrant goodies that came along... someone of you must have known I have a fragrance weakness! lol Only six of my contributed seeds came back to me. I believe I put something like 20 in the original box. So I am glad you all took a little bit from me. I'll be emailing some of you with questions about these seeds. I am also in the throws of transferring all my files and bookmarked sites onto a brand new computer! So I am surprised I am able to get in here right now to post this! lol I had to look for my passwords for all the sites too! Good grief! Upgrading is exciting but a pain at the same time! Well The robin landed back home!!!! OH MY GOSH I DONT BELIEVE HOW BIG THIS THANG GOT!!! YOu guys the gifts are wonderful I loved each one of them!! IN one there was chocholate and needless to say it is gone I also recieved a realy nice tera cotta sun plaque that I will hang out side on the house today.a package of plant lables the metal kind , a very very cute angel windchime, a spring time wind sock,three candles,wallpaper border , miracle grow plant food ,a tea towel, gosh the list goes on and on . What a blast I had opening this bird! I read the journal and loved it! Most of you are about tha same age as me ,wich I thought was pretty kool. Amanda thanks for the pic ,what a nice looking family! You look alot like my lil sis.8 years younger and 5 inches taller than me. (I am only 5' tall). Went thru the seeds and took out what I would like to grow and I have posted to give the rest to two newbies. I could never use all those seeds!! OK Gals! I have sent out your secret pals name and mailing address. If you didn't get an e-mail with this info, please let me know. I went through GW for most of you in hopes that all e-mails would go thru OK. Now you can start shopping!!!!! Remember to try and have these boxes sent off by Dec. 10th so they have time to get to your pals house before Christmas! If you think you may be a bit late in sending, please e-mail me and let me know, so I can let your pal know that they have not been forgotten :-). I would suggest sending with delivery confirmation, and make sure the PO scans it so it is valid. I am going to start a new thread. Great to see the 'sign-ups' emails coming in! So far we have EIGHT including myself. We just need two more and I'll get this "Robin" in the air!

Oh i wish I could participate but I only started WS last year (late in the season) so the seeds that i collected are mainly from plants that I started indoors or plants that I bought and collected the seed to sow this winter...I guess that'll exclude me from the fun ::

Thanks Zone_Envy and FrenchGardener for the well-wishes!

I am nervous about organizing this as I didn't even know what a Round Robin was before Dec. 2! lol I hope it goes well too. If it works... I'll be doing another one next year and then you two can join in! Save those Winter Sown seeds!!!

To everyone else ... time is running out! I am setting the deadline for tomorrow (Thursday) midnight to see if we can get two more. If not, I'll start the Robin off with our eight folks.

One small question re postage..do we sticker over the cancelled stamps and add new? What if the postage doesn't get cancelled? (not that I've ever seen that...wink, wink)

OK... deadline has been extended! We lost one enrollee - Shanta, so we are back down to EIGHT. Since the mail doesn't travel on the weekends I thought I would mail the Robin on Monday morning first thing. So that extends the deadline to Sunday @ suppertime (that is 5:00pm here in Ontario iffen you is checking da time zones! lol

PS... I hope our "Robin" has LOTS OF FAT on her! She will have to fly from Ontario out to BC, make two stops in Alberta, four stops in Ontario, then on out to Nova Scotia and fly home to Ontario again. PLUS if we - no make that 'WHEN we' - get #10 to sign up who knows where poor Robin will have to fly! lol

OK folks, I think I DID manage to mess this up. I think I misunderstood how Round Robins work and am in the process of getting some feedback from the nice folks over in the Round Robins forum. When I get a better idea of where I went wrong I will post in here IMMEDIATELY.

In addition, the Robin has NOT taken flight yet. I have had a LOT of unexpected company and things got delayed. So I started getting organized to send this Robin up in the wild blue yonder and then I started realizing someting wasn't making sense. I am expecting to get it resolved today and I PROMISE PROMISE PROMISE I will get it in the mail tomorrow - pending getting some answers from the emails I sent out of course! lol I sent my questions to 15 individuals on the Round Robin forum and have already gotten one reply. Unfortunately they were a Newbie as well! lol So I'm hoping more answers will be arriving shortly.

I just wanted to keep you folks up-to-date with our fat little Robin... who is losing weight even as we speak! lol I hope we can get her flying SOON!!

Hi buddyfly.just saying hi,we traded seeds last year.
The columbine seed you had to go into your garden and look
for will thay all had grown.and like a good gardener i found homes for all of them,cant wate to see them flower this year.
my member name is different now it was persian shield.
