Think about a new W-I-N-T-E-R-S-O-W-I-N-G round robin swap.

I noticed this swap this past winter posted here. I don't think it is too early to start to think about another.

I would love to host.

Last year's was hosted by token, and was, according to all reports, a big success! He's ready to hand over the reins to anyone who wants them, so your post in right on time.

Shirley, I was out the other day doing the same thing. Putting back my flower tags took longer than I thought with the ground still a little frozen. So I put them under rocks for safe keeping. I planted a tiny, I mean teeny tiny, little yellow foxglove baby that I got from a friend of mine. I was so astonished to see that it has at least tripled in size. It is planted in the back of the house, by the foundation, where there is very little snow and no wind. Is it possible that it could have grown over the winter? I was just shocked to see it. Ruby, that sounds like a terrific HEART. Chocolate and Butterflies! What more could you ask for??? Corrine, your right! I love to laugh... and best of all IT'S FREE :D Ellie, I hope your feeling better. There hasn't been that much of a winter to do "sowing". I do jiffies under lights, but have been wondering with such a mild winter are the ws'ing jugs outside bursting with bloom or are they not growing at all because they don't have the snow for insulation? I also would like to remind everyone about the rate and review forum. We don't do it nearly enough on the round robin, and for some of the newbies, it really helps to establish them. Thanks! A couple of notes because the rest is going to be rather long and involved: Lynda, I have the Vitex marked for you and in your baggie! And thank you for the marigolds! They will be very interesting with my others! Dessie I would be more than happy to receive your little helper's seed packets! I think it's great! Wendy Try some Chai Spice tea, it works wonders in helping clear up colds and flu. I always add a dollop of honey to help sooth the throat. It's a staple in our house and really does help. Alright, here is my take on this.. I can understand how many were hoping that the two swaps would not coincide, but, we all knew there was a fair chance of that happening. For myself, I know that I continued to update my list, even well after Patty's swap's mailing deadline. I did my updates using the same method we did for Patty's swap- using an updated date. Even had I not, I knew there was a good chance the two swaps would overlap. I joined this one knowing full well- according to the guidelines posted for it- that I may NOT receive as many as I sent in. That I would receive as many as were sent in FOR me, up to five packets of the SAME item. I recall there being some issue with this and a member who became very rude in their comments about this fact. Yes, my package from the What's Left swap is in the second batch to go out. No, I did not keep strict record of what I sent to those who were in the What's Left swap. I did keep better records of what I'm sending for this swap. I also know that a lot of people will be sending in baggies of seeds marked as extras- not dedicated for anyone, but to add in when it's seen those items are on someone's list. No, these may not be some of the rarer or more exclusively wanted items on someone's list. But if someone has some of those rarer or more specific items to share, I'm sure they would have put them into your baggie before they mailed. So, I don't see that anyone would be missing out on anything. The only way I could see having updated one's list further as complicating Patty's swap would be if someone had removed things from their list. Updating and adding items would not have conflicted. Because if there were any extras of what you were wanting, Patty would have included them. So, I guess I'm not really understanding how there is such a need to update the lists just because one is in both swaps. If I receive duplicates, wonderful! Because the things on my list are things I want! If I don't receive something on my list, then no one had it to share. If I receive so many of something that I can't plant it all, then I can bless someone else by offering it up for a trade. So, perhaps I'm being dense here, but how would one not receive something sent in specifically for them (up to FIVE packets of the same item!) that was on their wants list in this swap? Everyone has the chance to see your wants as posted and you have had the option to add to that list, as many including myself have this whole time. The only thing I could really see the two swaps happening almost simultaneously possibly affecting would be one's have's list. I'm sorry, I don't mean to upset or offend anyone. I'm just honestly trying to understand why this is such an issue. So please don't take this as meaning to offend or as pointed to anyone in particular. This is just me trying to understand why so many are upset about this. If you prefer to email me privately and help me understand it, I would be pleased with that and please do! Perhaps there are aspects and issues with this that I'm not readily seeing and should consider. I don't want to keep the thread off track by my question becoming a debate here. Perhaps there can be some adjustments of dates if this swap happens in the late summer or again next winter, but for this year it is as it is and personally, I'm really enjoying it! Nancy, I hope you don't decide to drop out, because I know that I should have at least a couple of things from your list, perhaps more. But I'll respect your choice and be your Garden Buddy either way :) Fran, you have a real job ahead of you and I don't know how those like you and Patty do it! Leave me hosting my "pair em up and let em go" or true RR type swaps! I think those of you that host this kind of swap are awesome! Angela, you have been a wonderful help to Fran and all of us in this swap! I know the time it can take to code pages like that, though updates are easier once the initial work is done, and I want to say THANK YOU for the time and work you are putting in on this swap for everyone's benefit! Jasmine - What a great deal you got on those pots! WooHoo! Also, thanks for the compliment on the seed packets. You have no idea the countless hours that went in to me folding paper until I found the perfect design! LOL! Here's how you do it: 1. Cut a piece of notebook paper in fourths. Each piece of ruled paper will become the seed packets. I normally just crease it it half both directions and tear along the creased line. 2. Use the short side of the paper as the top. (There are two short sides and two long sides, like any rectangle would have.) I also like to use the red line that goes down the page to the inside of the packet, so that would be facing you right now. Bring the top left corner and top right corner down and in to the top middle part of the paper where both points meet. Where they meet, is where you'll crease the top left and top right side of the paper. It should look like a point at the top that forms a triangular shape at the top of the paper, like the point on an arrow. 3. Bring the bottom of the paper up until it meets the bottom of the triangular shape and crease it there. 4. Bring the left side in to the center of the paper and crease it there. (The center is easily visible by the line that was made in the middle of the top triangle shape you already made. 5. Do the same thing to the right side bringing it also into the center and creasing it. 6. Bring the bottom up to where the the left side and right side straight lines end. 7. Fold the top flap down inside the bottom flap you just brought up to "seal" the envelope. It really is an amazingly simple mini seed packet that used lightweight, ordinary notebook paper. All I do is open up the right side (because I'm right-handed), pour the seeds in and fold it right back up. One thing I would highly recommend is writing on the ruled lines on the front of the packet BEFORE filling with seeds. It's that simple. I've seen a lot of origami packets that had to use the heavier, bulkier paper to stay firm and like a good packet, but this isn't one of them. I've also seen that if even one little line is not perfectly creased, the packets looks "off", but this isn't one of them, either. It's a very forgiving design that hardly shows a flaw even when my kids make them! I hope others will try to make them. If I can scan each image along the way, then I'll try to make another post with pictures. I blow these out while I'm watching TV without ever cutting or gluing paper. I can make over a hundred in no time at all. Just the first ones you make take a little longer as you get used to it, then you fly right through them! Blessings, Angela

An iris farm?!? Now, I'm jealous. It has been muggy here, which is unusual, and the plants seemed the worse for it. I ended up with everything in the kiddy pool. Yes it made the pool muddy. Nope, no kids here, except the grown ones! And my furbabies. ! My puppy LOVES to play in his pool, and dig and chew plants. At least he used to chew plants, he is much better now. So helpful. There was a time when he would go out in the yard, find whatever I had put in the dirt and pull it out. (Like a treasure hunt.) Hopefully next year it will all be a different story. Grey water in the front yard with no grass. and low water eco lawn in the backyard all surrounded by beautiful beds full of the wonderful offerings from GW! I am packed and off to the p.o. Yikes! Hi Newyorkgrower -

It's nice to see your enthusiasm in jumping in with the generous offer.

Not meaning to put a negative spin on anything, but I personally am generally most comfortable in participating in round robins hosted by people who already have a track record of being active (or somewhat active) forum participants.

I realize that you might have been around for a while reading and participating that way, but your Gardenweb ID shows you have been registered only a few weeks and have only made two posts - and that includes this one here.

Hosting a round robin can be quite an undertaking - and I would feel more comfortable sending seeds to someone who's been registered on Gardenweb for longer than that, and who has been real part of the conversation flow for a while. In fact, with personal trades I always check registration date. type of posts made, and the rate and review forum before agreeing to a trade.

I would not at this time join a round robin hosted by someone with your number of posts and registration date - but would be happy do so next year after you've made some WS forum posts and shared your WS stories, successes and photos with the group. :)

Hi will that makes 3 including me. And I have a friend that would join us who posts here and on another site.

I would add, that folks have to start someplace, as I see it.... I am too old to be running off with someone's seeds. So if trust is an issue here, better to get involved only if you can "give it a try"...

Ok, I will admit I don't post much, nor do I share pics. I think it is because I started on another site as this one was very hard to join and very hard to get started with.

But I can say if anyone is looking for me to post a lot, and base their decisions on that, well I am sorry.... I am not a big poster, but I sure am big on honesty and reliability. AND again I am far too old and "big" to be running down the road with a stolen bag of seeds.

This particular swap was actually hosted by conniesc last year and was completely different than token's swap. Connie's swap involved sending seeds from plants whose names started with the letters in WINTERSOWING.

I personally don't have any problem with Nancy hosting this, but courtesy dictates that Connie be contacted to see if she is planning to host it again herself. I remember once in the Round Robin group where someone took over a swap and the originator was rather hurt.

At least two people offered to take over token's swap and I thought that he had accepted someone else's offer already. You can look at the link posted previously to see who that is.

Thank you Becky. I was thinking the same thing but I did not take the time to go back and look at the posts. I was kind of looking for token's swap to be posted soon, which I think preceded Connie's swap last year when I saw this thread and I got a little confused.
Nancy, there is no reason you can't create and host your own unique wintersowing seed swap unrelated to either of the existing swaps. I'll sign up for it!

I participated in Token's swap last year and it was wonderful. I have been in hopes that someone else would step up and host another swap. If there is one you can count me in. (I do not post much but read every day)

Hi all... I replied to a message I recieved in my email and I thought the reply would be posted on this board, but I see it is not here. If it does turn up, forgive the double post.....

"Gosh I had no idea that this (my original post) would cause a bit of "fuss" if I can use that word and no one gets upset.

I just thought that a swap might be done, (and) that it was not too early to "think" about doing it and would host no problem becasue I had the time.

Someone else suggested I might want to take over another persons. Let me say I am not looking to step on any ones toes, and certainly would rather start "my own" if it takes the hassel out of things, so to speak due to my original posting.

I just kinda feel if there are folks that want to think about doing a swap now, and want to swap with me and others that I would host, because I am retired and have the time.

PS... I might add I don't look at this as being "my own", it is just a figure of speech. I am happy to join a swap, if some one else wants to host it. Or I can put in the time and do it. It really makes no difference to me.

I don't think there should be any feelings of toes being stepped on or hurt feelings. We are not children right? If someone has shown they are responsibe and can do this fine, if however another person starts one, a person should not be offended. At some point in our lives we all want to "step up and be noticed" I think in one way or another. And this is a way for some folks to have that notice, and there is nothing wrong with that. The thing that is honorable in the effort, is the "carring it thru to the end (or till the seeds come up.. hee hee..)", not many of us can do that.

So, as far as I am concerned... I have seeds and if there is a round robin, called Winter sow or "put it in the ground and grow it"... I don't much care. I am simply interested in a swap.

My suggestion then, which repeats what others have said, is that you start a NEW post, with a NEW swap that has an original name that won't be confused with the ones that went before. I think this group of wintersowers will sign up for as many swaps as are out there. I did both token's and conniesc's last year, as well as several on the Round Robin site, so I will also be watching for you to get your swap rolling.

Why don't you post a new swap on the Round Robin Exchange Forum and post a reminder on the Winter Sowing Forum inviting people to join.

Members who may not read posts on this forum will see the post on the Round Robin forum.

Hi all....

I have gotten some emails I don't see here so I think they are personal and will remain so.

I really don't want to spend the time emailing over this and I kinda feel I have already spend too much time with emails and posting on this board.

And since it seems to me I have upset some folks, and that was not my intention.... I am taking my ball and going home... LOL my seeds and going home.

I guess this group is friendly, but I post more on Dave's Garden, and have visited with folks there to exchange plants and get started grwoing. My postings there were well welcomed, and I enjoyed it there.

I find getting on this site in general hard, but persisted. I am not interested anymore in doing this here since it has created such a stir, and it seems I have stepped on some folks toes. That doesn't mean I will not be posting now and then but for now, I really don't want to deal with the politics.

For those who would like to trade with me away from this board, please be in contact.
