Spring sickness and OT pics

I have a lot of cases of spring sickness this year, or at least what I think SS is. Deformed, twisted leaves, with brown, torn edges.. I tried to find any common factor, like Ev or Dor, new or established, location, no it's everywhere on many of them. It's been a cold spring. Well we had couple really summer-weather days, and now it's cold again. I wanted to take pictures of bad looking DL leaves, but never got to it. It's my third year growing daylilies, and previous years they mostly looked good in the spring.

Anemone Sylvestris Is really charming!
I also had a relatively large number of plants with spring sickness this year. I decided to discreetly mark them and see if those same ones give me problems next spring- if so I may reconsider having them if the flower in bloom isn't amazing enough to cancel out having to wince in pain every time I see those poor sick leaves.

I am a sucker for lilacs love them. The anemone Sylvestris is pretty and you have to love amaryllis. Mine do survive outside and bloom fine, but no big lilac trees or lupines here.

Well, if the tree dies then I can get a swimming pool. The lady who lived here before me planted those trees in the middle of the yard. I will plant a few new trees in the back yard in the fall or spring. About how long till something like that kills it off? a few years? 10 years? It's a shame, I really do love that tree. When it does go I'll cut up the uneffected parts and use it in my smoker. Man, I really have no luck with the plants and trees at this house.

Ot Got a Mandevilla Vine (Pics)

Those mandevillas are glorious! I have never had any luck propagating them, but mine always seem to come back in the late spring. Just about the time I have given up on them, they start sprouting. Last year, I discovered they make tubers kind of like sweet potatoes. i tossed one in my compost pile and it started growing. At the end of the season, rather than trying to keep them going, take up the tubers and let them go dormant. then replant in spring. I have kept one for a long time this way and they are supposed to be annuals here. Those pictures are gorgeous. It's a shame you can't send cuttings internationally. Linda 441 for mother's day, my boys bought me a clerodendrum thomsonae red delectum ( red bleeding heart) and it looks wonderful in a hanging basket. Another favorite is ivy geraniums. They bloom constantly and withstand the heat better than the zonal geraniums.

Well, no I don't mean for you to be doing all that work of digging them up and replanting. I mean just add time periods you don't have. So if you have lots and lots of late flowered ones, then look for early bloomers to add. Or just got for a long blooming mix. The reason I love that Scheepers mix I bought is that it is a no brainer. They have figgured the selection mix of early to late, I didn't have to work on it. In fact I didn't even realise how well it would work out until after I saw them all bloom last spring. So this spring I knew what the mix would do. In fact I intend to order more of Scheepers mixes to plant around the yard. Besides the Long Trumpet mix that I already have, I am going to order their All white mix, Fragrant Mixture, Gold Medal mixture and the Rinus Rim Mixture. Then I also plan to get some specific types. Like I will get February Gold for very early and Ara for early. My earliest I have now is EARLY SENSATION, which I have by itself and is also included in the mix. Camelot another I will order is a late bloomer. It is something like my daylilies, you know I have a long bloom period. I figgure I can do somewhat similiar idea with the daff bloom season. I do love those daffs. For years I just bought mixed bags locally. But these from Scheepers are so much better.

Brad I can't wait for spring! The only problem I have during the last of winter is convincing myself that I don't need any more plants. My daylilies have looked worse this spring than any other year. I think many got frosted a few times. The dormants are okay but the evs and Sevs have looked terrible. Some of the leaves were just hanging there limp.
I don't think it has been spring sickness on most of them. I always get a few plants that have it but they look different than this. They are growing through it but I have cut many yellow ends off and am going to do more. I always seem to have some leaf streak and have heard it can infect already damaged leaves. This year it is going to be terrible.
I have also lost the centre of a few clumps that are fairly close to each other. Do moles or voles do this? I always see their tracks when the snow melts but have never had an issue with them in my daylilies. They put many holes in my lawn but I just look at it as aeration! These clumps look like all of the centre fans just disappeared.

Love the lilacs. This is supposed to be a good year for lilacs. Wish I had some.
I've had way more spring sickness than ever before too. It really is ugly and I'm hoping the plants recover soon.

My Lilacs are wonderful this year, so it must be true. Also, I have had more cases of Spring Fever this time around then I can remember, and it is the semi and evergreens. They are now all growing out of it, many had twisted fans,and fans that would lay down. The weather this spring had extremes of temperature and way too much rain.

Oh yes, the fans that lay down, forgot about that. That was something I've never seen before. Now I'm curious to go check what are they (sev, ev).
I'm glad I had time to enjoy the lilacs, because after two full days of rain and then frost overnight I doubt they'll look good.

The White Lilacs are stunning. I have never seen white lilacs before. I have no advice on spring sickness, sorry.
