I used to grow them as an annual. I kept them in a pot on my steps & just left them crawl around. Yours is a pretty color, I only had light pink because that was all Lowes got in.

Congrats! Very pretty, both of them. I believe they would propagate easily from cuttings. I added some compost and composted cow manure to manure to my potting soil and keep it moist but in full sun and it is doing very well. I am about to post some pics.

I have several mandevillas. I cut them back over the winter and keep them semi dormant because they never fail to get infested with every nasty when I kept them going inside over the winter. I've had a terrible time trying to propagate mandevillas from cuttings. The only way I've been successful is by ground layering. Just bend a branch to the soil and secure it so it doesn't move then cover it with some more soil. It should eventually root then can be severed from the mother plant.

Very pretty! I had a couple mandevillas last year, 1 white and 1 pink..but they didn't make it overwinter. My pink had a candy like scent to it, but only at a certain time for each bloom..was weird, but smelled so good. Do you notice that with yours? I seemed to be the only one who could smell it on mine.
We could never get sick of seeing pix Shawn, lol.

Karyn, I had the same prob with mine over the winter, I kept mine on the back porch & they had these bright orange lil sucking bugs on them..nasty. They killed the plants before the cold did. Never had one bug on them when they were outside. But I do have the ones growing from seeds you sent me! thanks again!

OMG - my latest obsession has been mandevillas! I have three now. I got one from logee's and it's TINY still. the second one I got from florida and sent back to CT on the bus with my friend (I was flying). we stuffed it, bare root, into a lemonade pitcher, after having to trim it down a little, and it traveled in his luggage for 26 hours in the cargo hold of the bus. LOL. then I didn't even have a chance to plant it for a few days, but when I did, it sprang right back :) didn't even complain. I love mandevillas :D it's got a ton of buds on it now!

the third one is absolutely MAGNIFICENT. it's about as big as me if I curled up in a little ball! and it has SO many buds all over it and it keeps blooming! I got it from this awesome garden center off the berlin turnpike called stonehedge. it's one of the very pale pink ones. I don't even want to tell you how much I paid for it, but it was worth every cent!! I love the thing so much :)

I also SORT of have a fourth one - when I picked up my pale pink one at stonehedge, there was a dark red one with a broken branch. I asked if I could have it and they said sure, good luck! so I have yet to see what it does... any suggestions on that? I dipped the cut end in rooting powder, stuck it in some dirt and built a little greenhouse around it with some plastic and a tomato cage, hehehe

oh I am so envious!!!! I killed 4 mandevilla's last year. The first one someone gave me for my bday and told me you can't kill it.......famous last words!!! So I didn't get one this year.

Oh wow, I didn't know they came in so many colors. Those are really beautiful. I sent some cuttings of pink bower vine home with my sister to try and root her one. Maybe I need to pin a limb to the dirt so if hers die I will have a rooted one for her. We looked for another one for her at Lowes but they were all gone. The flowers bloom and fall off in a day but they are always more the next day. Would there be seeds in the spent flowers or do you have to propagate by cuttings?

I just finished my Pergola yesterday and want to pu some Madevilla's out around it to have the vines grow up it! Along with Dipladenia, Pipevine, and hanging baskets with various vines. Any suggestions as to vines for hanging baskets??

Those mandevillas are glorious! I have never had any luck propagating them, but mine always seem to come back in the late spring. Just about the time I have given up on them, they start sprouting. Last year, I discovered they make tubers kind of like sweet potatoes. i tossed one in my compost pile and it started growing. At the end of the season, rather than trying to keep them going, take up the tubers and let them go dormant. then replant in spring. I have kept one for a long time this way and they are supposed to be annuals here.

Those pictures are gorgeous. It's a shame you can't send cuttings internationally.

Linda 441 for mother's day, my boys bought me a clerodendrum thomsonae red delectum ( red bleeding heart) and it looks wonderful in a hanging basket. Another favorite is ivy geraniums. They bloom constantly and withstand the heat better than the zonal geraniums.

I stopped at HD yesterday and they had some mandevillas... very sad looking ones, that desperately needed help. Yet they weren't on the clearance rack yet..hope they get there soon cuz they had them marked at $23. That's BS. I got mine there last year for $7! ANd they weren't even on clearance. Right now the ones I am growing from seed from Karyn are doing well but the aphids found a couple of them yesterday..I am spraying everything 2x a day now! These guys are outta control in my yard this year. I hope so much spraying doesnt kill anything.

Daniella, the manager at Lowes will usually mark down the bad looking plants if you ask but our HD never does. They throw them away when they look bad. Try the other store. Wal mart had some small ones here for $7 a while back after I had already got mine of course, lol.

PAGRDNR: Mandevillas grow on semi- neglect in my part of the country!! Have had M. Dupont (pretty pink) and Red Riding Hood (smaller red bloom). As long as I could give them some water, they stayed bug-free and continued to grow. Kristy, my HD usually has the clearance rack but I guess it's too early. I saw alot of half dead roses that were dry as a bone, maybe they'll get that rack goin soon.
Lowe's always has the good deals on the clearance racks. Plus MIL is good friends w/the plant manager so I go with her and get the REALLY good deals!! Just that it's farther than HD so I dont go there as often. Might have to hit it up this weekend.
