I went out yesterday and snapped some soggy pics. :)

Soggy and uncolourful front bed:

A little more colour in one of the side beds:

The back bed - not much colour left there either:

This lamium is blooming now, for some reason:

Just begonias and impatiens in the shady white bed:

The geraniums are still pretty bright, though:

You've still got oriental lilies blooming! I think you'd better mention to them that they'd better hustle up and get prepared for some cooler weather for the next 6 or 7 months!lol It's nice to see the fall colours........almost makes up for the lack of flowers at this time of year.

Boy I would like to see less fall color and more blooming. Well sorta, cuz I really like fall! But I want it to come later LOL

Mine was all still in bloom- these first pics belong properly in last week, but I didn't get to it- It snowed on me Sat morning!- by the time I got home from basketball games it was mostly melting though. But today they all look fine, so my little bit of covering was good for the brandywine- and I may not even have needed that much- there is a benefit to overgrown beds LOL

Ok some before and after then-

and the pretty one untouched

OK now for what there is now that I didn't take pics of in snow and rain- front bed made this year

Volunteer mater in the newest bed

My miss all american beauty and a mini rose in the old east bed

Anyway I want to see what anyone else is getting

Great pictures, Laura! I'm growing the 'Red Rubin' basil this year to, and it seems to hold its purple color better than 'Opal'. I ran out of space in the veggie bed, so I just stuck it in one of the flower beds, and it is so ornamental, that I haven't even harvested any yet, LOL. Have you tasted it? Just wondering how it compares with other types of basil. Not sure how Purple Pesto would go over with the family either! Is the Gomphrena 'Strawberry Fields'? I've almost planted that one a couple of times, and was afraid it would be too pink, but yours looks pretty red in the photo. Thanks for sharing! Bonnie

Sharon - I got the Sputniks from Specialty Perennials last year thinking they were perennials. I WS'ed my leftover seeds this year which are the ones in the picture - no sign of last year's plants so I guess they are annual here. Ang - Very nice colourful bed in that first pic! echoes - What a thrill seeker you are - petting bees sounds risky to me ;) Although at this time of the year in the cold they do seem very slow. Doris - Thanks for the compliments on Kirby's pic (p.s. Sharon, I'm a little lady... LOL). I don't know what those asters are but I hope they hang in long enough to collect seed. I got them in a trade labelled 'Tall Aster Purples'. Here are a couple of more pictures showing foliage and when they were just starting to bloom. Maybe someone can help me ID in case I don't get seed I can buy some. I'm even wondering if they are asters - to me the leaves look more like chrysanthemums but aren't the flowers on mums more double? I'm not too familiar with either plant so I'm just guessing. I did some googling but there are sooo many varieties. Thanks - Susan

These were taken before the f****. Sigh... Cosmos: Cosmos Double Click: Bright Lights cosmos: I am just loving this heliopsis this year. The seeds originally came from Jan who used to post here - i can't remember what her screen name was. Echinacea 'Big Sky Sunrise' has been blooming all summer again: The dendranthemum is blooming again, and this one flower has a bit of a doppelganger going on:

Well here's whats still going here. Clematis Golden Tiara....rescued from Canadian Tire, it has climbed to over 6' in this tree! Clematis Rooguchi Sunflower...almost there...Might not make it if we have another night like last night! This one barely made it...its pretty small! Still strawberries! Gloriosa Daisy...from seed....I think I have 3 flowers from the whole packet. Delph....and dog! Agastache....first to bloom and still going strong. Poppies have never stopped blooming. Echinacea Doppleganger getting its second row of petals. I hope this makes it over the winter. Lavatera...definitely planting more of this next year. This is my Forget Me Not....It has been covered with tons of flowers since we got back in August. I think thats perennial Baby's Breath beside it. Lilies....I just moved thise from the front along with the baby's breath. I am surprised they held their blooms! And the fall blooming Lupin. And tons of moss as you can see from that last picture. That blue Forget Me Not...when I took this picture I noticed that the seed pods are exactly the same as the seed pods from that tall white flower I was looking for an ID for...and once I noticed that I realized that the leaves look very similar. I'll post them both together in the gallery so we can compare. I think I still have the packet from the Forget Me Not...so I can hopefully find the right name for it.

Just one very special one to show you - Miscanthus sinensis Blutenwunder. Year 3 in the garden, first time blooming. I feel like a proud mama.

We've had several frosts, but today was a sunny day, good for scrambling around preparing for fall. I stopped to take some pics of flowers still blooming. Here's a few.

Corydalis lutea is providing long lasting color in the shade bed.

Garlic chives.

A golden rod I grew from seed this year. I hope it doesn't take over the yard.

Helenium, also started from seed this year. I hope this will prove to be hardy.

Gaillardia still going strong, but I wish it didn't flop all over.

I think this is linaria. It came from a free pkg. of mixed seeds. I was told they have a short bloom period, but these have been looking good for quite awhile.

Shauna sent me some linaria seeds last winter and they've been blooming all summer. Not short!

I have linaria too- they definitely have been going all summer long! I love them mixed with my bigger stuff! Although by this time of year I can barely FIND them!

That's really good to know about the linaria. They were so easy to grow, and remind me of an upright lobelia. Do they grow well in containers?

I had some in a container that i gave to my sister-in-law. They were doing fine, but i haven't seen them since i gave it to her, so i couldn't say for sure.
