Abies lasiocarpa or Abies concolor?

I can't figure out if this is Abies lasiocarpa or Abies concolor.

The cultivars would either be 'Prickly Pete' or 'Piggelmee'.

I'm thinking A. concolor but the pics on the web of these two cultivars look very similar. Perhaps the needle pics will help below.

Abies lasiocarpa, for sure not Abies concolor.

Some time ago I investigated St.Mary/St. Mary's Broom question somewhere in this forum. The answer was: "Broom shouldn't be part of a name anymore than seedling or sport. I used to offer 'St. Mary's Broom' and changed it to 'St. Mary' to keep the name more in line with the cultivated code of nomenclature. I didn't think there would be any confusion since names cannot be duplicated within a genera, meaning only one 'St. Mary' should exist in the Picea. So Kleckas, they are the same plant and I recommend calling it 'St. Mary'. It is an excellent cultivar and even though I am producing many of the newer ones, I will always be doing this one. Yep Mark, you got the "true" beautiful blue 'Pricly Pete' ;0) Jim, you have some real gems in your collection! These babys are at least a couple of years old :0) I'm glad that you wrote the 'DuFlon' in the right way. Will, your "Mystery" Pseudotsuga is an Abies lasiocarpa 'Argentea' 'Daycreek' must bin written as 'Day Creek' but probably this is a mislabeling for 'Dry Creek' which makes more sence... Normaly seen the Abies magnifica 'Nana' is an upright form. I think it's wise to stake it's leader... I've had nothing but perfect service, perfect plants and very reasonable market value from Gordon. I ordered three plants on thursday night and they arrived on saturday morning at less P+P than anyone. Not a single piece of new growth damaged. The website is excellent, he's improving the pictures with one's of actual specimens for sale. I got a refund of money on one occasion unbidden as a plant was 'maybe a bit small', I hadn't thought so. As for deep pockets, I fail to see how a man can make a living at less than he charges. Whatever happened to you and the 'others' I wonder at.

in my experience Abies lasiocarpa is more sensitive to heat and humidity (born out by the paucity of arboretum and public garden specimens in the mid-Atlantic, versus A. concolor) so I'm not sure your improvement plan is actually going to help. If CK says Abies firma has been OK as a rootstock in zn 5, I'd be inclined to "trust but verify". Ask them if they know their customers didn't lose such plants in the recent polar vortex winters. But it sounds like you already discussed it with them.

Will, it's simple, the needle length, shape and colour doesn't match with Abies concolor.

I agree it is probably lasiocarpa.
However, your specimen is not blue enough to be 'Prickly Pete'.

Here you go! Keep in mind some plants just don't have as nice a color here in the Midwest.

The older needles look like A. concolor thats why I was leaning that way. One plant died during its flush when I received it and I took the tags off the day of.

It is true about the color differences. It is probably 'Prickly Pete'.
