My First Daylily Hybrid

I made a few different Daylily crosses in Florida during the spring of 2009. I had seed by June and planted them in containers and watched them germinate quickly and grow. Last spring I planted them in my new yard here in Florida. The one I am going to show you today is one of only two that even attempted to bloom last spring. Each of the one's that bloomed last year only had one bloom each. This year all of the hybrids have grown really big and it is only their second year.

So here is the hybrid that just started blooming today. It is 'Ming Toy' X 'Stella D' Oro'. The pictures are from my cell phone and don;t do the colour justice. It is a darker orange than the pictures show. It will be interesting to see if it is a repeat bloomer.

It is my first Daylily to bloom this season. The next one that looks ready is 'Stell D' Oro'.

Jake: hmmmmm, looks like your not posting the "HTML" code and therefore no pics are showing. :-(. This site requires the HTML code otherwise you can't post a pic.

Also when you do the preview BEFORE you hit submit,you should see your photos appear. If they do not show and only the codes are showing, then there is a problem.

Try getting an online photo hosting account(they are free) and uploading your photos to it and then copy and paste the HTML code.

Congrulations on your win. But as Jill said" Run, run, run while you still have a home and food to eat. Of course, you can eat dls but why pay that much for them then eat um? I do spend some time on there and lost the last bid I had so I am just hanging out. I promised myself I wouldn't buy anymore for at least 6 months. If I break my promise, I will forgive me though after all, it is an addiction and it's really hard to break the habit. I love Frank Smith's daylilies...Ellie

Grace, I am sure you will be swimming in tomatoes before you know it, especially with your long growing season. Pupilla, Cool! I have never heard of that strain. I just looked it up. Looks like you may be getting some whoppers. The info I just read says 1 to 3 pounds each. Sey, I cut one open and tried it. The interior tasted great and very similar to Sungold and Sunsugar but unfortunately the skin was really tough and hard. I cut open a Sunsugar because I thought it might be interesting to observe the similarities and differences. I didn't grow Sungold this year so I couldn't compare it with that variety.

Hurray, pictures finially. Thanks! It does look a little more orangy than Stellas Ruffled Fingers. Very nice.

Thank you for posting the pictures! I knew this site required something, but I was tryong to post before I ahd to leave my house. Sorry!

I can assure you that the colour is much more orange.
