If you could only have one Daffodil, which one?
Comments (13)Campanula, That post was nothing short of inspirational, i'm very moved :) I am now on the look out for jonquila. lol An unfortunate coincidence, 2 days prior to reading your post I was staring jonquilla baby moon in the face, among about 50 other spring bulbs at a store. In the end, I went with hyacinth city of haarlem because it seemed to be highly regarded as a fragrant, and unusually colored hyacinth. I regret my choice.....might be going back there to pick up baby moon for that "heart-lifting" fragrance. They are really adorable little flowers. I also found that hyacinth very rarely propagate themselves, and need to be lifted and scored after going dormant if you want it to spread......among other unfavorable mentions on hyacinths. I still adore them, and look forward to the fragrance each year at a public garden. Hopefully city of haarlem will not be fussy in my yard. As my favorite daffodil, don't have one. This is my first year messing with daffodils. I picked up a mixed set of 'ice king' and 'delnashaugh'. Hope they perform well. Hopefully I snag some baby moon before it's too late. I feel a favorite coming on if I get it....See MoreIf you could only have 5 types of figs
Comments (15)Smith Smith Smith Smith and Smith. --------------- Celeste you already have LSU Purple you already have Violette De Bordeaux.....excellent tasting and super productive. One of the best tasting figs. One of the best for all growing areas. White Triana......consistently produces super sweet figs, productive, and long season. Does not drop figs and tolerates heavy rains and is bug resistant. Cold tolerant Absolutely excellent fruiting characteristics. Any one of these......Hardy Chicago, Gino's, Dark Portuguese, Marseilles VS, GM #11, or Sal's (El). They are all good figs. LSU Gold if you like them big, juicy, and sweet. It produces two crops per season. Does well in colder areas. Hollier or amber pulp Golden Celeste....if you like them sweet. or Black Mission if you have the room for a tree that wants to grow LARGE. Black Mission figs are in a class of their own. I love them. Dan...See MoreWould you, could you, have *only* sconce lighting in a hall?
Comments (9)Thanks for the responses. I have no idea what building codes require but my architect will know. The problem is that I want the house to keep the old-house feel even though the upstairs will be all new construction. So recessed cans don't really fit that concept. I suppose I could do a couple of overhead fixtures that aren't recessed cans, but I just really like sconces. Good points about not having them all on one wall, but on the opposite wall there are a lot of doorways and the opening to the stairs, so I'm not sure if there's even a logical place on the opposite wall to place a fixture. I'll take another look at the plans, and next week I'm taking my first "field trip" down to the house to walk through and see the progress in person! They have most of the upstairs walls up, and the roof is going on this week....See MoreIf you could only have one OGR!
Comments (54)I have mixed feelings about Le Vesuve. It really does bloom all the time, but here the foliage, while never heavily diseased, generally has a look of being less than fresh. It makes me think of a person who has a constant cold but never actually develops pneumonia. I'd certainly keep it in my imaginary 50 rose garden, but not in my imaginary dozen rose garden. Still I can see why people might choose it for its excellent qualities Roses that for me have similar qualities would include Rosette Delizy and Marie Pavié. Near constant bloom and healthy foliage -- and fewer prickles than Le Vesuve does. You should have seen me last month crawling on the ground under Le Vesuve and its thorns, pruning out dead wood, and intermittently exclaiming words that would have made my mother wince. Given that I live next door to a residence house for Catholic priests, you'd think I'd learn to guard my tongue a little better....See Moreloveofmylife680
