Before planting outside this time of year, it's necessary to know if each plant is perennial, which I don't offhand, especially bachelor button which could refer to several different sun-loving plants. If not perennial, are they able to handle frosts? In zone 9, you'll have a few frosts. Some plants grow better when it's cool, some when it's hot. By researching these things, you should be able to determine whether they are OK to plant/put outside now, or if the seeds would be better started outside in the spring. You had great success with them sprouting! In general, they look like they're leaning toward the light. I just planted pansies and snaps for winter too, they should do well until it gets too hot. Pansies probably won't live through summer, can't take heat or dryness. Snaps should stay alive if they don't bake too badly, seem to handle drying out much better than a lot of other plants, bloom almost constantly.

I think you have nailed each of them. funny about the impatient, a few years ago I had a lovely impatient basket hanging above the bed where these 'wild' ones have appeared, so it would seem the seeds are from the tame impatient. I have kept a few and now they have bloomed, quite beautiful yellow flowers. Yes, Knautia, the flower looks so much like the pincushion-Scabiosa- I wonder if they are related. The Knautia has not spread and the Scabiosa have. Ladybells seems right also, there is a rosette with only a tinge of red, but I would not call them aggresive. However, bear in mind my zone. They do spread somewhat so I can imagine under more favorable conditions they would spread more.

YMMV is theme, I think. Mine was gorgeous year 1. About 3' tall, and covered in 'catalog' blooms. Year 2 was shorter, and fewer blooms. Year 3 I think it was MIA. I was sad. I winter sowed a new batch of it this year, and also got a dealbata (same thing only pink) in a fall plant swap. I'm excited to see new growth on it already. I'll definitely be looking for a new Montana, though. I really liked it, as did the paper wasps (they mind their business if you don't bother them).

I planted a plant called Scabiosa last year -- I've heard them called bachelor buttons as well. Mine did great all summer long but didn't survive over the winter. But who knows. I brought a Bee Balm with me that I liked but it didn't do anything last year. But this spring it has come up and is doing just great. And the perennial geranium I planted last year shriveled up, but lo and behold, it was beautiful this spring.
