More orders came : - ) No pics this time

Another couple of orders came yesterday and today I got everything in. Yipppppeeeee. Very warm and humid here BUT I am not complaining. I'll take this over sleet and snow any day.

I got from Judy Davisson, RAMBUNCTIOUS ROSIE, WHAT'S UP DOWN SOUTH, MEAN GREEN and she sent RABBIT RABBIT as a gift. Large, healthy fans. I'm so pleased with the shipment and can't wait to see these bloom if not this year, next year will have to do, LOL.

From Delano Daylilies - Karen Newman - I got a couple of the Morry/Patterson plants.Karen is the US grower of their plants since the Morry gardens are in Canada. I got GRASSHOPPER, JURASSIC JUNGLE, WHERE'S CAPTAIN KIRK and she sent AVALONIA QUASAR as a gift. Again, another group of large, healthy plants. What I thought was so unique with her shipment was the labels. She uses those long white plastic pot markers that have a hole on the end and writes the name of the daylily on it. So helpful since I didn't have the plant markers ready this morning and used those to mark the plants once I got them in the ground.

The metal plant markers are done, in the ground and the rest waiting for more arrivals to come.

Now I have a Davisson garden bed and another for the Morry plants. Yes, I am starting to group my plants by the hybridizer.

Now I can focus on getting rid of lots of bearded iris - don't worry I have alot I'm keeping - and getting my current daylilies ship shape from all the nasty weather we had.

Time to get back outside and pull some weeds.

You'll just love Judy Davisson's plants. I tell anyone and everyone how fond I am of MEAN GREEN.It is one of my top 5 favorites in the garden and everyone who sees it wants it. I love it and usually don't even care much for orange in the garden! After the summer Regional meeting is over, I've donated double fans of this to both Regions 2 and Region 3. Congrats on all your new daylilies! Any of Judy's have always bloomed the first year they were here.

How exciting! It is going to be beautiful at your house...Let me correct that, even more beautiful. I have one of Davisson's that I got late last year and I am hoping to see it bloom this year. Time will tell on that.

I like the idea of Hybridizers beds, and I do have Munson and Emmerich pretty much done that way.

That is so funny, Julia. I am eliminating a few iris too. I want to get back to two iris beds instead of three. I have some duplicates, and some that just perform well for me. (Starship Enterprise is gone...three years and never a hint of a blooma)

Working on a garden is always a journey, not a destination, isn't it?

Erin, I dunno.... Its June. We had two 95 degree days here last week. At work when I was digging stuff out of our intermodal containers I felt like I would come out scorched. The nursery must push their shipping times until they start having to issue too many refunds. Did they try to talk you into next day air at least? For mail order, and it seems my stuff comes from Oregon or Pennsylvania, I try for after Halloween or before tax day in April. Sometimes I can't resist a random ebay purchase lol. But I try for the cooler seasons. Far as what to do with the bent tree, I say give it a few weeks to straighten out. It is difficult to undo any damage prying on branches does. Good luck! And glad to hear they took care of you and you do not sound like you are giving up on trees!

two things.. first .. good job... i thought of making cement in rain.. so what.. its better than anything you could have dreamed up with a bucket in the house... it will be very simple to replant it in a few days ... second.. i tape things so tight ... they stand up on their own... if you need a stake ... its not taped good enough ... i never figured out how to make a stake ... with a large division.. stand up.. in loose soil ... exciting times... ken

Closed base cabinet, I think; it gives you more options. In this case, I think a "standard" base would work best...drawer on top, shelves & doors below....and probably stationary shelves (but adjustable!) rather than roll out trays/shelves (ROTS). I think ROTS would take away too much space from a shallow cabinet to be worthwhile. It's not like 12" is too deep to access easily! For the wall above, it could either be an open cabinet w/shelves or nothing at all. You could mount a calendar or white board there with either option. If w/cabinet, then maybe a shelf above it for decorative items or something. The floor of the of the cabinet would be a good place for a pencil holder, stickies, etc., leaving the surface below open space for writing, etc. The sides of the cabinet would be a great place for adhering stickies w/notes to yourself or others. You could even install some hooks for keys on the inside or outside, and maybe install a place to hang a grocery list. It's right across from the garage entrance so it would be ideal location for these things. (Maybe even a staging place for kids' lunches in the morning....easy to grab on the way out the door!) [OK...now you're making me miss the Message Center we were supposed to have b/f we lost it to our KD's measuring errors...this is almost exactly what we had planned!!!! The message center niche we ended up with doesn't work quite as well :-( ] I would put countertop on the surface...ties it in w/the rest of the kitchen. If it's a stand-up writing surface, at least counter-height, maybe even higher (bar-height)...test out the surface heights to see what works best for you & your family.

Thanks, folks, for the feedback. The cats were pretty freaked out by the shag, too. Also, it is 5 x 7 vs. 5 x 8 and it looks a little small. I will definitely return that. I am surprised how well the stripe works, too. The retro CL coffee table looks odd since it's taller than the sofa cushions. Oh well, perhaps it will remain in the office.

Julie: I just love that photo. Hope mine will look like that.

Kay: The bearded iris multiply faster than rabbits here. I hope to eliminate several large plantings and replant with a few to start the whole process over again but this time I want to mix in some other colors. I've learned my lesson....less is more. ;-). I just hate to compost them so I'm giving them away to folks who can give them a home.

A full day of gardening and I LOVE IT!!!

Oh, lucky you, Julia. I think Judy Davisson has wonderful daylilies, and maybe some day I can get a few. Mean Green is a beauty, and so are the others. I look at her website a lot to try to pick favorites, as if I could. I can hardly wait to see photos, hope you have some blooms this season. I will have to look up your others, not familiar with the hybridizer. Hope they are all ugly or else I will want them, too. LOL. Avedon

I'm trying to mix it up here and add in spiders/uf's along with the round forms.

Avedon: LOL, hope they aren't ugly but I understand. I'm a sucker for daylily photos. Look what happened with Kay and Cindy's BLACK FATHOM DEPTHS photos.

Thunderstorms rolled through last night. Seemed like one band after another. Power was on and off but the rain is always a good thing. Hopefully it helps the daylilies recover from all the harsh spring weather we had. My poor daylilies look really beat up from that snow/sleet and then freezing temps.
