2009 CONVENTION : pictures!

Just starting to process and edit the first few pictures. Here are a few- will try to post a few more over the next few days.

We visited Floyd Cove during the tour ( Friday) and then went back on Sunday. Here's a candid shot from Floyd Cove (Stamile/ Pierce):

This is one of Pat's seedlings that I saw both days. Some will like the fluting and ruffles, while other will think it looks deformed. It was certainly eye-catching and different!

Grace had some amazing seedlings too. ( I love the minis.) Here are just a couple. These were shot on Sunday in bright sunlight so the color could be better. Grace calls these her "grey eyed ones."

We visited Nicole Harry's garden on Sunday too. Had a chance to sit and talk w/ Nicole and her boyfriend and enjoyed her garden very much. This is her SOUTHERN DAZZLE. Of course it was in full sun and afternoon, so the pic would have been better earlier. Am anxious to compare this to blooms here.

Luddy's ( Lambertson - Art Gallery) garden was the last garden we visited on Saturday. The blooms held up well despite torrential rains then bright sunlight. This is Luddy's PHOENIX FLYING, which was a runner up for the Ned Roberts Spider/ UF Award at this year's convention.

I saw BLUE HIPPO in several gardens. ( also one of Luddy's. ) This was blooming at Floyd Cove.

and, finally ( this is all for now) this spider which will likely be a spring 2010 from Pat. It is named after a good friend of mine and former club member who passed away suddenly about two years ago. This is JOHN EUCHLER.John loved spiders, this is huge, and just by looking, it appears to meet the spider ratio.

I meant to include this one. The minute I saw it, I guessed it was the one everyone was talking about earlier this spring from Jack Carpenter's website. This was labeled "Josie's" and then had some numbers after it. I asked Pat if it was the 2009 of Josie's that was sold for about $500. ( can't remember exactly the amount - but it is on the website.) Pat confirmed that it was, and he also mentioned that he'd never seen it bloom polymerous until Sunday. Since some of those gardens got upwards of 20" of rain, we saw a lot of polymerous blooms! This one probably doesn't look very impressive in the picture, but it was a huge 8-9" bloom with wonderful substance. I did get a better understanding of why people were clamoring to buy it.

Oh how fun! You must have had a great time. I really like those grey eyes of Grace's! I just got Blue Hippo this year, and saw it bloom yesterday. I really like it... but then again, I like all lavender flowers! :o)

Good growth on your clematis and soon blossoms on Asao. I removed some of the mulch from my gardens today and was surprised to see several clematis planted last fall growing through the mulch. If it doesn't rain tonight/tomorrow I will check the others.

The picture doesn't do Springfield Clan justice, I think it is much prettier in person. It is one of those that I keep photographing because I am never satisfied with my last shot. Large flower, lots of buds, a favourite. The only fault so far is that I have not been able to set pods on it, regardless it stays. I agree no picture will ever do Mary's Gold justice. It is an oldie but it glows across the garden. In clump form with 5 or six blooms open at once - magnificent. Orange Prelude is another that catches the eye, and one of the first to bloom in my garden. Quite a display - multiple blooms open all at once. Thanks for the nice words on the seedlings, they were planted in 2008 and bloomed last summer fo the first time. I didn't get as much bloom as I wanted because that summer they sat in water and then ice during the winter. They were really set back but I felt lucky with how many that survived, will be interesting to see them all in bloom this summer. Wes - I wasn't expecting that flower when I made the cross; since, it is out of Chicago Apache x Apple Of My Eye.

Hi floota! You are so ahead of me with convention pics! Gosh, I haven't even begun to sort through mine....given that I have even more than last year and I just got that last garden done right before this year's convention,....I suppose there is no hope for me...lol!! I got zero pics at Stamiles on Sat due to all the rain, but did get my share on Sunday! Enjoyed your pictures very much...now, to find the other parts!

It is entirely possible! Thanks for the heads up on this. Looking at the pics on Dan's website, I will go back and rename that picture as ISLE OF SKYE. Although I routinely take a picture of cultivar/ nametag/ cultivar/ nametag and try to be accurate, sometimes the labels are hard to read or placed where you are not sure which cultivar the label goes with. Three of the gardens had really difficult to read / find nametags ( IMHO) and we ran into this problem when trying to ID a few pics for the next Journal.

Thanks for sharing your excellent photos! I'm glad to finally see a gorgeous photo of Blue Hippo somewhere besides the Art Gallery catalot. Post more photos when you get time. I love to see those slices of the convention.

I hope you post more pictures. There's nothing like real life photos. Maybe I'm starting to get jaded, but I like Pat's seedling. Weird perhaps but I like the colors and the whirly edges in your picture.

Gorgeous photos! Thanks so much for sharing. I really like Pat's new seedling. Totally different and love the color. Josie's flower is beautiful also, but it will be a many years before it could live here I'm afraid.
Can't wait to see more!
