Finally my Gs.... Graduation from University...Our daughter graduated this past spring (May 2008) with her Bachelor of Education and is now kept busy with substituting in the schools in our area. Gigantic muffins that my boys like me to make. They are the same size as the ones from Superstore. Instead of my batch of muffins making 24 large ones, it now makes 6 gigantic ones. These are the kind of gardening gloves sold at MHA convention each year. I love them. This year I hope to get about 3 pairs. They might last me thru this years season. Garbage box that my husband built. It is raised off the ground, the lid is at a slope and it works very well to keep the animals (domestic and wild) out of the garbage here on our acreage before the garbage gets burned. The goldfinch are back! This is taken in the beginning of May. Now for a few daylilies.... The Grapes were loaded this fall! I made grape jelly, grape jam and canned about 7 dozen quarts of grape juice from the grapes of 2 plants. There are 6 hostas that I took pictures of last summer that start with G. A few of them are mature but the others are still babies. I bought about 150 new ones last summer, so expect lots of pictures of hostas of all sizes and patterns in years to come. :) Gold Standard Hosta Golden Tiara Hosta Great Arrival Hosta Great Expectations Hosta Guacamole Hosta Gypsy Rose Hosta Now, some irises.... Ghost Gossip Iris, SDB. I love this one. Gizmo Iris, MDB. So dark!! Gleaming Gold Iris, SDB Glenwillow Iris, MDB Grandmas Hat Iris, MDB Grapelet Iris, MDB Greased Lightning Iris, SDB Gaelic Sunset Lungwort is a zone 4 lungwort. I like the spots on its leaves. Last year was its first full summer and it didnt bloom then, so I hope it makes it through our really cold winter this year. It is supposed to have pink flowers I believe. Gay Paree Peony was on the acreage here when we bought it. I moved the original roots and made 5 clumps of them all along the edge of a retaining wall. I have a spreading juniper, Bar Harbour that drapes over the wall edge, planted in between each peony. I have 3 sempervivums that start with G that I took pictures of last summer. Gay Jester Georgette Granada Sempervivum. When Sharon posted hers she said that hers looked like it had a sunburn. Hmmmm.... wonder why it grew like that? Here is mine. I love the way the camera caught all the little fine hairs on each leaf. Golden Apeldoorn Tulip Greuze Tulip Now, off to getting the Hs ready... Brenda

Here are a few A's from my yard... Apricot Whirl Daffodil has a nice double flower. Ann and Russell Burgess Daylily is a beautiful creamy yellow daylily with a bit of a ruffle around the edge of each petal. Articulate Daylily...love the color on this one. Atlanta Royalty daylily is a nice red colored tetraploid daylily. Ankum's Pride geranium is a small perennial geranium with the most pretty pink flowers. Albo Picta hosta... American Halo hosta is a slow grower for me. I would like to see what a little fertilizer and lots of water in 2009 will do for it. I love the leaves on this hosta. This is Alpine Lake iris, a MDB. It was taken just after a rain and thus the transparency in some parts of the leaves. American Patriot is an IB iris I got from Snowpeak in 2007. Its first flower had 4 petals. So, first is a picture of the front, but then the second picture I will show has all four petals. Love the bright colors on this iris!! Apache Warrior, an IB iris, bloomed shortly after I traded for it with a friend. Arctic Fancy, IB iris is veined and edged with violet. Ask Alma iris is an IB apricot colored iris. Algrave lily is a pure pink asiatic lily that I got from Shelley in 2007. Thanks Shelley! Here is a perennial potentilla called Arc en Sol. It has a double flower and is scarlet in color and as the flower gets older its edges fade to a yellow. Very pretty. Acre sedum started to bloom July 6th. There are two semps that I took a picture of this summer that start with A.... Adelmoed Sempervivum... Akhenhaten Sempervivum... Aymon Correvon sempervivum's flowers are so tiny and pretty. Aztec Gold Veronica is a miniature, creeping veronica. I love the yellow coloring of the leaves. Lots of people who toured the yard this summer asked what kind of perennial it was because its leaves stood out in the landscaping. Brenda

Well, this spring I went into my greenhouse/potting shed and organized. So, here are two pictures taken of the Basement of my potting shed where I placed plastic shelving units and organized all the empty pots/trays/etc. How about Blister Beetles? In past years I only found them at night on my pasque flowers, but this year I found more beetles in the yard than other years, drowning in the dogs water dish, walking on the ground, etc. Apparently they can fly and so, that must be why I found so many in the yard this year. They have an iridescent blue coloring and you have to pick them up (and squish them) with gloves on because they will cause blisters on the skin if touched. If disturbed, they pretend to be dead as two in the pot are doing in my picture. Bellflowers or campanulas are one of my favorite perennials. This one is Birchs Hybrid. Another name for it is....Campanula portenschlagiana. Birchs Hybrid is easier to say. Bowl of Cherries has a dark pink flower and is a short campanula. It blooms for a long time. It reminds me of a miniature Cherry Bells. Bishops Hat (Epimedium) Biokova Geranium is a short small perennial geranium with pink flowers. Birchwood Parky Gold Hosta flowered for me this summer. Blue Mouse Ears Hosta is a hosta that I got this year. It had 2 eyes in July when I purchased it. I split it immediately when bringing it home. Here is one half of it, two months later. It must have at least 3 eyes in this division already. It has super thick leaves and a blue coloring to it. Now for a few irises... Ballycastle is a beautiful pink BB iris. I got it from Snowpeak a few years ago. Bangles is an MTB. The more I see it, the more I like it. Bantam iris Here is the emerging Bud of Blueberry Tart iris Now for the flower of Blueberry Tart, SDB... Blue Line, SDB I love the colors on Branded, MDB Boogie Woogie Lily has a huge flower. It is an Oriental Trumpet cross. Bertram Anderson Lungwort is a small lungwort with narrow pointed leaves. For phlox I have Becky Towe, a garden phlox. Bright Eyes, another garden type phlox, I also have. I really like the hummingbird moth that was on it this summer. This is one of the few times I actually saw one sitting and not fluttering about. And for sedum, Black Jack in the middle of June... Blue Carpet sedum is a soft blue-green ground hugging sedum. It is very pretty to look at. Here are a few sempervivums (hen and chicks)... Bellotts Purple Big Blue Bowles Giant Brown Owl in May. Sure has dark center petals compared to its outside petals. One of my Bunny Girl sempervivums, new to me this year, flowered. Blue Spectacle Tulip is a double tulip that looks like a mini peony. I love the purple-blue color of the flowers. Burgundy Lily Flowering Tulip is described as a flaring cup-shaped lilies with pointed tips. I love the burgundy color of this tulip.
