Lots of seedlings...some siblings to compare

Ok, here's what's been blooming in my seedling beds. Some have blotchy colors but they are 1st year seedlings and FFO's. There are a couple of older seedlings that I wanted to share with you all too. Enjoy and please feel free to comment honestly on them. :)

These first 2 are full sibs from Karen My Love x Razzle, and couldn't be more different. I really love the double one.

up early Jan.. : ) I just finished my stroll though the lily auction and was about to head out to the garden myself. You have some stunners in my opinion. I especially love COQUINA KEYS X JERRY NETTLES, JUNGLE BEAUTY X LAND OF COTTON, BRUSHED WITH BRONZE X UNKN AND KARNE MY LOVE X RAZZLE although all of them are winners for me. I love the colors.. and I wonder about that yellow..lol.. must have been a throughback to generations way past. You are doing great with your seedlings.. I want some of that VICTORIAN LACE seedling.. off to the garden I go

KMLxRazzle is beautiful! I really love the color and form of the second one.
I love the intense color red of CKxJN. The yellow edge really brings out the beauty in that one.
AA05 looks like it has a rainbow of colors.
I like the smooth look to AWCxEB, I really like the purple pink color plus its a bi-tone, I really like bi tones.
Nice job Jan. You have some beauties there.

EG, Annpat may have inhaled compost fumes, she has it backwards. Never, never, never, compost meat. Best to throw it somewhere a predator can get it but not in your bin. Put it on a tree limb, for a bird. If it goes in the bin you will just encourage them to figure out how to get in it and then you will have a mess. I believe there is an oath everyone who compost, takes against composting meat. There may be a federal agency that oversee is it as well. As far as the bread, that should be composted, don't fill your local landfill and deprive the wonderful bacteria and such in your bin a sandwich.

Hi Guys Hmmm politics, I'm not sure if I understand what the problem is here other than the fact that we (BSI members) elected Delegates, but the Delegates elected not to discuss such an important issue with it's members. I have had contact at various times over the last six months or so with each of our Delegates (Aus) but at no time did they elect to ask an opinion of a member, therefore I shall elect not to elect either of these Delegates again until such time as they realize that they were in office for the members, not for their own personal opinions, or self importance. I feel disappointed for all the hard work done by Derek & others over the years & now people seem to think it's all falling apart. Well no it doesn't have to, don't just complain offer suggestions to help fix the situation instead, for one the way I see it, the BSI is only taking control of Administration of the BCR, as it is we register our hybrids with the BSI now & that goes into the BCR, then the photo's get posted on FCBS, so what is going to change, you don't register hybrids with FCBS it is only a photo index for you to look at pictures to aid in ID's. If this is correct it means you register with the BSI, you send a pretty picture to FCBS for all to see, or any other photo index around the world for that matter, as any site can post your picture, but only the BSI can register your hybrid name, therefore not much is changing as FCBS was & still is only a photo index (I believe that's what's on it's Title page) not FCBS Bromeliad Registry. I do feel it is time in this day & age of computers that all BSI members should get a copy of the minutes in one form or another so that we know what is happening in our Society, as our Delegates don't seem terribly interested in keeping us informed here at home after the meetings. "Lets be Heard" Hmmm $25.00 bucks is not going to fix the problem of so many "Neo. Binalotatrash's it's only going to help keep the great load of Neo. Ulanfils out there instead of in land fill. (sorry those names are already taken) My hat goes off to Lisa for acknowledging in an earlier thread that her little white variegate (as nice as it is) is one of so many like that out there now, so it's not worth adding another one, there's a hybridiser setting a good example worth following, congrats Lisa for self policing, only the best will do. Back in the early 1900's the Plant World had Expo's where new plants/hybrids were presented & given Awards of Merit etc, so where did this system go, Derek suggested a Certificate of Merit system but nobody was overly excited about this, so it seems to have fallen away ?? Offer a constructive suggestion don't just complain. My suggestion to Derek & others recently has been to include in local Society Show Competition Schedules, is a section for Best New Hybrid Award (locally produced not imported) with a respectable reward/incentive offered, some of our Societies are pretty well cashed up, so how about the Societies stepping-up & remembering what they are here for, THE PLANTS. Another section that should be high on the agenda is "Best Species, Seed Grown", forget the hybrids we need to save Species, I thought that's what Societies were, partly, all about. I don't know that printing this thread in a news letter is the way to go as most Society members aren't members of the BSI, & it probably wouldn't interest most of them anyway as most are just sit on the fencers anyway. I feel it should be sent in it's entireity to all members of the Board with notice, it is our Society not just the elected Delegates & we are interested in what's going on. I know I will be asking our next intending Delegate a few questions before I cast a vote, "where do you stand on the above matters ??". NO I'm not offering to do this as a Board member has been involved in this discussion, he should step-up & do it, as an elected Delegate it is his position to act on members requests & show the Board we're not happy with the way things are going. Jan- Couldn't get the actual link to work but went to the photobucket site and was very impressed! You have some absolutely lovely babies! I was especially drawn to a couple of the Tenesse Treasure x Donna's Prayer crosses, and I haven't searched the site for your sibling post yet, but wouldn't be surprised if that was the one you used to show differences! They are all gorgeous but very different from each other. Lyle--Your first seedling posted is still my favorite, but sibs 1 and 2 of the second post come up right behind. The difference between the sibs in the second post is amazing, not to mention that they are all gorgeous! That would definitely be one I would do again! How fun to see what other people are crossing and the results! Thanks Linda for a neat thread... especially when it is seed collecting time (finally) for me! Well, Mom3, your SS's BM is the mother who lets the kids jump on furniture and turn over couches. --"She allows him to treat her and the things she buys him this way. If I say something... it'll be that his mom bought it, why does it matter?"-- Would explain his careless attitude, gonna get another one, so why care about this one. Kinda makes it hard on you to teach kid any different when BM underhands the lesson. My GS has had a bit more trouble at first taking care of cell than DD had at first. DD is a little perfectionist, GS is a 18 months younger than she is. I think the girl vs boy thing plays a bit in it also. Rule at his father's house is it must be charged on night table each evening and Ex DIL has same rule...I think that helps with both being consistant and reinforcing each other. It only took a couple weeks to get GS into the habit. GS has a slide on belt holder for his cell and when he wears pants with no belt he usually hands one of us his cell to carry for the day (depends on who has him that day). Ex DIL will text one of his adults if she's had any trouble reaching GS. DD carries hers in her purse (she's a girly girl) when we go out, and it sits on her vanity in her room when we're home. Neither child has any doubts the cells will be taken away and/or not replaced if we see any abuse of the privilege of owning one. Luckily with GS's mother, she feels the same. She has GS help save and pay for his items like DSi. He just got some new video game player (x box?) and I know he was telling me Mom took him and his half of the money. He was real pleased with himself. He earned his half by helping set up and clean up from Gpa's auction, putting in the veggie garden and shading and watering the plants until settled in. I think his Stepdad helped him earn some too by letting GS learn to ride the lawn tractor and pulling weeds (their yard is huge). GS tells me it's his weekly job now to help SF tend the lawn when GS is there on each weekend in the summer. GS's SF was hiring the yard work done but I guess ExDIL wanted to give GS the chance have chores and to take on a bit of responsibility.

Mistake on the label of the KML x Raz double seedling...it should say #2...senior moment I guess!! LOL
Shelly...I've already been in the garden and deadheaded all my dl's, yes call me a neat freak, but those old blooms have to go every day!! :) I have a few new ones blooming in the seedling beds so I need to get my camera and head back out. Make some photos yourself gal....I want to see your babies in the early morning. LOL

tahtah4now....thanks,the first 10 photos are all of 1st year blooms so I'll wait till next year to see if they improve and then usually it's the 3rd year before they really hit their stride. No telling what some of them will look like by then. Some tend to change drastically and some change very little. Glad you enjoyed my babies. :)

Jill...I have several sibs to that Victorian Lace seedling...could be one of them finds it's way to your garden. :) And, that AD x CC seedling is a nice clump so I can spare a fan or two of it also. Best to wait till this fall or next spring however.

Jan,Thats what I was thinking on the 2 I want to send you if the fans are there to do that. Right now on wispy rays only 2 fans and 2 scapes [ might be why they sell out it does not produce alot of fans quick]but there are at least 10 fans on Radition Bio, boy that one has increased good from 2 fans last year.

Beautiful seedlings Jan!! My favorite is the Coquina Key X Jerry Nettles. The color is so very rich looking, a real stunner IMO.

Great pics. Another Distraction X Chartered Course is a knockout!! I love all the Victorian Lace seedlings too. If they were mine, I would be proud of all of them. Great job - did you purchase any of the seeds or do the hybridizing yourself?

I love your AA05-03!! Unknown, but beautiful! Another Distraction x Chartered Course is a show stopper. Holy Moley is that a eye catcher. Brushed With Bronze x unknown is nice too, and I am not usually much for reds. :o)

In your Tennessee Treasure x Donna's Prayer you have some yellow background: In Tennessee Treasure, Ida's Magic goes back to Ruffled Dude and Fred Ham, which are cream/yellows... For Donna's Prayer, Betty Warren Woods is one of the parents (which is also a Ruffled Dude baby). Actually, it looks a lot like Ruffled Dude... It is so cool how you get throw back genes...

Cool... love seeing all these seedlings!!!

I had to search for this post after reading the current sibling post, and wasn't at all surprised to see that Tenesse Treasure and Donna's Prayer duo! I really love both of them and they are radically different in appearance. I had also somehow missed the pic of Another Distraction x Chartered Course on your photobucket site. Lovely flower and photo!

From the very little reading I have done on this, I understand that if you cross the same cultivar once you get a better version of it. If you cross it twice it starts to weaken the plant. Wondering what made you decide to cross Victorian Lace on itself? Is there a characteristic of it you are trying to get rid of? I just looked through all of the children on Tinkers & no one has made that cross yet. I've seen Stamile make crosses on to themselves with other cultivars, but not this one. Nonetheless, they turned out fabulous & just curious what made you do it.
