Abies ID Challenge

This little mysterious gem is growing at the Oregon Garden.
The tree itself is a relatively upright tree with blue-light green foliage that is relatively stiff.

Any musings appreciated!

Hi Sam, please get some bigger pictures out there. The tag at Oregon Garden says that this tree is Abies recurvata. It's definitely not Abies recurvata. Henk posted a pic in May which didn't generate much response.

Larry Stanley was also growing and selling this as Abies recurvata. I rescued a gallon-sized plant and put it into my landscape. It's on the mend but still looks pretty rough. I also took some scions from the Oregon Garden specimen and grafted them last winter.

My personal guess is Abies x vilmorinii. The English guys have already chimed in. Blue Yew thinks it's an Abies marocana cv. and Pineresin thinks it's an Abies pinsapo cv.

Abies x vilmorinii is supposed to be a cross of Abies cephalonica x pinsapo. The Auders and Spicer Encyclodedia shows Abies x vilmorinii 'Rosemoor Form' which is a pretty close match to what we're looking at. Its parents are supposed to be Abies pinsapo 'Aurea' x cephalonica.

Let's figure this one out, team.

Yes, with those leaves it would be one of the Mediterranean species.

Nate, my old flexilis in good soil looks like similar yours here, but you have too much pines in America, no tips. Your Colorado firs are beautiful, specially the second one! you have the first planted at least 8 feet too close to the fence ... we discussed its heritage years ago ... no recall what they decided .. lol .. yes.. splint the second ... push a 4 foot bamboo.. straight down the trunk ... and tie it up ... ken maybe the pix will show in a new reply

Abies magnifica 'Nana' Id?

Plants labeled Abies magnifica 'Nana' at an independent garden center here are quite like A. lasiocarpa 'Compacta' except without the silver banding, making them inferior. At one point the two items were even being displayed mixed together, an employee doing stocking apparently not noticing the labeling differences. It really was remarkable how interchangeable they were - same size, habit, everything - except for the one kind being silvery. Maybe the buds or surfaces of the shoots were a little different, or fine structural details of the foliage could be found to separate them. But the two selections belonging to two distinctly different species seems very unlikely. And you wouldn't expect that there would be any genuine red fir cultivars in general commerce - the species is infrequently successful outside of its native area.

I don't even know if this is possible, but I may as well make known my suspicions..
The glaucous appearance of the needles and the fact that the needles are arranged differently from either cephalonica or pinsapo vaguely resembles Abies procera in my opinion..
I think it may be an Abies procera x Abies pinsapo hybrid.
Does anyone one know if this is possible?

It's well possible it's Abies recurvata, adult foliage.
Many abies have 2 typ of foliage : juvenil and adult.
Different also the lower part to the top part.
Here a photo in augustus are appreciate when the gowth are well finished.

"I think it may be an Abies procera x Abies pinsapo hybrid. " Wow, if all the trees not easily identified became a hybrid it's dangerous.

The needles on the specimen at the Oregon Garden are much thicker and more stiff than those one your specimen..
