I live in zone 5a too. The best place I have ordered on line is Maryott's. Then you know if what you want is available. I have an order coming from a different place ordered through the mail. They charged my credit card a lot less than my total order was so I guess that means I won't be getting several I want. I will find out which ones when they sent my order but would have liked to know so could order them from another place.

Their prices are excellent, selection good, and they send generous fans as well as generous bonus plants. I couldn't be more pleased, and I have bought from many on-line sources. Cglow, I have written before about Daystar Daylilies. They are local to me here in middle Tennessee and we have it all when it comes to weather..we had frost three nites ago..and over 100 degree temps and drought last summer.
Most of my plants come from Daystar and they all do well here.
They have a great selection from older varieties to the newest.
What I think is great about them is no matter how many lilies you order...the shipping is only 7.00 per order and they give a 20% bonus on the order.
I visit their gardens several times during blooms season and have bought from them for years.

I am new to daylilies as well, but I was very pleased with my order this spring from Oakes. All of my plants arrived healthy and had at least 3 fans. They've been in the ground for less than 2 months now and most of them already have 6 fans! I also found their website to be one of the easiest to shop from. You can shop by color, foliage type, ploidy, etc. rather than just skimming through a list of daylilies you've never heard of. Personally, I stuck to the rebloomers and the bestsellers list hoping that they were the most popular for a reason!

I have ordered several times from Oakes. They sent one with 9 fans once. Most are in the 3-6 range. Always excellent daylilies.

I had one daylily last year,and this year, after studying many hours on the AHS site, have purchased about 100. I found Aren't I Pretty Daylilies to be minimally adequate, with communication lag of days. They sent what was ordered, and the plants looked OK. Nothing like the great communication with Marietta.

Neal Buss on ebay, and he is the only one on ebay that I would buy from. He has plants from $5.00 up. He advertises double fans, you usually get at least 4. I bought 2 double fans of MAPLE HUES, and got 9 fans, sometimes you only get 3. They send extra fans but no Bonus, which at this point is better. Here is the link, I will share it now since I am finished shopping. Oh they are all BUY-IT-NOW listings, so there is no bidding, just buying. He also sells the good metal markers, and will custom make labels for them, you just make the purchase and suply the list. Nice people, and Excellent service and plants.

Slightly Different'-Paul Owens in NC sends superb plants, and is such a joy to communicate with.

I second that for Paul Owen. I ordered from him last year. The daylilies I received were huge. Some went into 3 gal. pots, and quite a few had to go in 5 gal. He was very good at giving recommendations on 'which is the better performer', ect. questions. He is a joy, and a 'hoot'.

Professionally run daylily businesses that I would highly recommend are Marietta and Oakes. Oakes prices are a little high on some of the older cultivars, but they send large clumps not just a couple of fans. Both accept credit cards so if you are dissatisfied you always have the ability to dispute the charges (not that you will need to with either of these companies).

You're in zone 5, be aware of rust, the fungal disease.

I just had a horrible experience with Oakes. They sent a shipment via FedEx to Washington State. It took 9 days to get to me. Plants were in horrible shape. I contacted them and have heard nothing. I tried contacting them 3 different ways and no response. I have ordered from them in the past and only gotten premium products. So disappointed.

I can't imagine they have not responded. Did you include your order number? Their refund/replacement policy is on their website including how to contact them either through email or phone. Good luck.

If a FedEx shipment took nine days, then you need to file a claim with FedEx.
