Annette, you are lucky you only got that little bit. The snow in the back yard is at least a foot and ahalf here. I had too dig the black bamboo out of the pond, the snow is so heavy.

Not quite as bad here, Annette. Still bad enough though. Oh my poor, poor daffodils. Because of the poor weather they have lasted a long time. I hope they are able to stand upright again when this stuff melts.

Update, I had to go out to rescue the pink Dogwood, all the branches were laden down with snow and bent to the ground didn't want them to snap so... on boots and armed with broom... I actually measured the depth, over a foot now. I hate to think of what's happened to the shrubs in the back yard... and we have already taken the brace out of the poolroom roof, fingers crossed. It's still snowing but much lighter now.
Sue's is only about 5+ minutes away from us by car, she's closer to the mountain and we're closer to the salt chuck :o).

I can't imagine that we are listed as the same 'zone' -- we had light rain. There was a near-freeze here on April 15 that discolored a few things.

Weather is a fearsome thing. Take nothing for granted.

I hope everything survives and this is only a temporary backset.

Oh, Annette - I knew what this post was about, before I opened it!! I wasn't thinking about the island, just Vancouver, and I must say my eastern heart had a little giggle. I am sooo sorry, and I hope that you don't lose any tenders.
My snow is finally gone here, and I won't tell you the temp.!! The good news is yours should melt quickly.

Nancy you just giggle to your hearts content, You guys have had more than your fair share of nasty weather in recent years. Right now it's snowing, the sun is shining and all the different birds in the yard are cranky and fighting, it's like a war zone out there. Both the rufous and the anna hummingbirds are fighting over the feeders, the chickadees and house sparrows are duking it out over one particular nest box, we did make the hole smaller so the sparrows can't get in, keeping my fingers crossed the chickadees win. I have to say they are my favorites.
Since these house sparrows have shown up we haven't seen either a tree or violet green swallow, both use to nest here. The barn swallows disappeared from this area many years ago. A

we woke up to a white ground this morn. then it hailed. then it was gorgeous and sunny. it's been doing that off and on all day. now it's snowing. we had 5 different hail storms one with hailstones just smaller than marbles. my hubby is 8 miles south and theyve had nothing. the town just north of us has had a small hailstorm. Things are pretty wierd out there if you ask me. i was trying to get my pansies planted today.

Annette, if that serves you as consolation, even in mild sunny Portugal we are having freaking weather. We have had a storm going around for a couple of days now - gales and heavy rain. Today it was so windy my poor shrubs and trees in the back garden were almost bent in half. Then we had hail. Plus more heavy rain. Sigh... weather is coming down on us too...

Hope your snow melts quickly and your garden recovers soon.

Yikes!!!

Well that was a shock when I looked out the window this morning I can tell you. The temperature turned quite mild this afternoon the sun came out, the foot and a half of snow started to disappear, the roads are bare I can see green grass in spots and parts of the gravel paths are bare, It's almost like waking from a bad dream and wondering if it really happened, but it did we've got pictures to prove it :o).

Weather, Here in Iowa we have 9 inches of rain ina week. So it flooded last night.Very swiift current going across front lawn late yesterday. Didn't want to look outside this am. Most of the water gone. Few corn stalks in lawn. Lots of MUD. But flower beds didn't look bad. Went around and poked hole in Mud so they would dry out faster. But to get more rain Tuesday. Pray not much.

It froze here in CA last night. Killed almost all of my tomato plants. Out of 12 plants, only 3 or 4 survived. The rest look all black and shriveled. It's not suppose to freeze here this time of year. Where is that global warming when you need it.?

caavonldy I think it's more like climate change than global warming. Whatever it is, it's getting to me.

Wow! I can't believe that pic. The weather is strange. Out this way it should be cool with possibly a bit of snow. Yesterday here we had record breaking high temps. It was about 85. Things are quite bass ackwards.
I hope not too much damage was done to your plants.

oh it is global warming! this type of freakish weather is what scientists have been predicting. the ocean temps are getting warmer and this messes with the weather patterns so dont necessarily expect lots of warm weather from global warming, expect weird weather patterns and climate changes. :)

there seem to be an increasing number of places experiences weather disturbances including droughts, storms and unusual weather patterns but many people dont realise that the effects of a global warming are more about the climate changes it will cause than a warming effect.

That's what hit us here in ND about 10 days ago...after all the winter ice and snow had melted.

Luckily, it only stayed on a couple of days.

Today we had rain, thunderstorms, snow with thunder, plain rain, and thunderstorms.

Strange, strange, strange.
