Golliwog Bloomed Today + Garden Pics

I was so sxcited because I knew Golliwog would bloom today. I just didn't realize when I went out to the garden with the camera that the 2 blooms would be HUGE on the 14" scapes. I was afraid the poor stalks would break under the weight. These pictures were taken about 8 o'clock this morning with overcast skies. So, without further ado, Pictures, plus some others. Avedon

Golliwog, planted the middle of October.

I was lying on the ground getting this shot, since the stalks are so short. I can tell you that pine needle mulch sticks!!!

This is our NOID yellow--I guess it's not a UF and doubtful we will ever know what it is. One thing it is not is short.

The scapes are 36" tall and the flowers are well above the foliage.

Blackeyed Stella was blooming wonderfully this morning. It is such a cheerful color.

Ran out of new daylily photos, so I'll close with our one year old Belinda's Dream putting out these amazing roses.

wow. Black eyed stella is gorgeous and BELINDA'S DREAM is always a winner.Wonderful rose.

Love your Black Eyed Stella, such a great looking clump you have there. Golliwog does look like a large one with great color.

ladypat- The lily bulb with daylilies bed was a new idea I got this spring. I have that row of Serviceberry shrubs which are the backdrop. Then theres a row of old Mary Todd yellow daylilies in front of the shrubs. My first idea was to plant more rows of daylilies in front but I am also crazy about bulb lilies so I decided to put in some rows of lily bulbs there also and finish off with more daylilies. That stringline was so I could get that front row of daylilies in straight. Then I have more daylilies comeing for the last row in front so I have to use the stringline again. Then I will put some edging pavers to finish off that garden bed. I put over 120 lily bulbs in there so it should be quite the show. Used Trumpets, Asiatics and some fancy hybrids. trailrunner- I think you are talking about the Bayer 3 in one. You don't need it. Only treat for insects if there is a big problem, not just because. Fertilizer is better off added as you need it and not overdosed with the spraying. All you need and all I use is the fungicide. Its Bayer Desease Control for Roses and it should be sprayed everytwo weeks.

So glad everyone is enjoying the pictures. I know my husband will be very pleased to know how many people like the stand he built. It really is much better that it's simple, because the focus should be on the ball. Most of the commercial stands we saw were very ornate and would compete with the ball for attention. Just the luck of the draw on the indigo buntings. We don't do anything special, so some years we will have several or we may not see any at all. Last year when I was gone, my husband opened the blinds one day and he said the ground was covered in blue. A whole flock of buntings had arrived to feed. I was heartbroken not to see them and get pictures. By now. people who read my posts know I am a nut for blue, so Val, yes!!! I would love, love, love to have daylilies in blue. I am going to put up a new post, so there will be a blue-flowered plant on it. Avedon

Oh gosh, where to start!? I just planted Dallas Star this Spring and it has bloomed, but not photo-worthy. In fact, I wondered why I wanted it in the first place, it was so un-impressive. But seeing yours gives me hope for next year! Piano Man was on last year's wish list, but I foolishly passed it up - can't imagine why! It just went back on my list, since your shot is so wonderful! Fancy Buttons is one I've wanted for a long time. Sure love your capture of the bloom. Just planted my Susan Weber this Spring, but looks like she will wait until next year to bloom. I like GOLLIWOG. I had to go look it up on the AHS database to see the stats. Goodness, it is registered as a MLa. I guess you got some scapes left over from last year. It is a big bloom.

Clump of BLACK EYED STELLA is impressive.

Golliwog is stunning I love it and Black Eyed Stella wow what a bloomer it's gorgeous. I've had a problem this year myself with short scapes maybe due to the weird weather this year who knows.

Belinda's Dream is amazing, what luscious blooms! Golliwog looks great, I would never have thought about it being such a new plant. The blooms are just lovely. Nice clump of Black eyed Stella too.

What a great namne Golliwog is for that flower. And your clump of black eyed stellas is so pretty.

I sure wish we could obtain reasonably priced pine straw mulch here. I don't like the shredded hardwood one bit.
