wanted: ge: apple and plum scion cuttings

I'm interested in getting 2-3 scions of any/every variety I can get from relatively healthy trees. Really only interested if the variety is known. I'm especially interested in yellow plum since those seem to do well around here, but would like to get several varieties to graft onto the stump of my neighbor's plum tree that blew over in the big snowstorm so he can get plums again. Apples are for me :)

I have European plum, Karmijn Apple, Blue Pearman apple, Akane apple, and Newtown Pippin Apple. Might have a few others, if anyone is interested.

Local trade only at the GE (preferred) or other local trades near Snohomish or Redmond.

I have two apple trees; the Jonagold is in good health. The second tree is not definitely identified but I think it might be a Cameo; it has been hit hard by apple maggots but they are well controlled with footies. I'm not an expert on scion wood and am looking for Asian Pear varieties I can graft on my Kosui for pollintaion

Unfortunately, I don't have any pear :( I'd really like to get some European pear for winemaking, but I hear they don't do well in the PNW weather.

If you do bring any scions to the GE, the best approach is to cut them in the morning, and put them in a jar of water for the trip so they don't dry out. Cuttings should be last year's new growth (the pieces you'd probably be pruning anyway) generally around the width of a #2 pencil and maybe 10-12 inches in length. Personally I probably wouldn't need more than 2-4 scions of each variety, only because some of my grafts don't take, so I figure if I graft several I'm likely to have at least one survive :)

Hi Dom, I just bought 3 kiwi plants: 1. "All Purpose Male" (From Dave Wilson Nursery, a major propagator of nurserystock in this part of CA. 2. Hayward Female (Primary kiwi of commerce) 3. Vincent (low chill female) Both of the females can be pollenated by the all purpose male. These plants are new, but I think that I can take some dormant hardwood cuttings. Also have 2 figs: 1. White Kadota 2. Brown Turkey Also lots of apples (6, including one rare antique apple, Belle of Boskoop), pears (both European and Asian) peaches (6), plums (Japanese & European)(6), peaches (6), nectarines, apricots, cherries, plums, pluots (7), apriums (2), seedless grapes (7 kinds), raspberries and blackberries. Thanks Bon- when you talk about budding- are you referring to t-budding? if yes, should the buds be harvested from dormant wood or should the bud be harvested during growing season. if the latter, presumably, it could still survive 2-3 days in the mail if wrapped in moist paper? am happy to try and gaft using the budding technique. anyone willing to trade/sell me some budwood?

I recommend those sites: 1- Fruitiers.net It is mostly in French, but many Canadiens are registered as well. Once you are registered, you can list what you have, locate apples and pears you are interested in and request a trade. 2- You should also check the two main Canadiens germplasm repositories: there are lists at UOfSak www.fruit.usask.ca (deadline in early fall for spring the next year) and secondly the Plant Gene Resources of Canada at pcgrc3.agr.gc.ca You can ask for cuttings (at the canadien Germplasm) until January 31st Regards :) This post was edited by ajetteaqua on Mon, Jan 5, 15 at 18:16

We have 3 old apple trees at our place. Perhaps original to the house (1917). Identified by local orchardist as; Dutchess of Odinburgh, King, and "something like" a Gravenstein. Still fruiting. All lovely and so different from each other. I would love to see them carried on.
