Don't want to mess this up

My darling husband has given me a very generous allowance for plantings in the front of the house. We are having a new driveway and new walking paths installed starting next week. They are also cutting in all the new garden beds for me but I need to get cracking on the plans for the planting.

We have an almost 100 yr old pale blue/gray country farm house in an urban setting. Our house is now on a semi busy road but we are ofset by a white picket fence. I know I want lots of color, roses and some evergreens for " bones".. i am so excited but don't want to jump the gun.

I have 3 large main beds and then beds to run along over 100 feet of fencing. YIKES!..

Just trying to figure out where to start is a chore in it'shelf! Any good books, magainzes or sites to recomend?
