Hi Zeetager , Are you talking lilies or daylilies ? If lilies (true lilies which are a bulb) then you may lose all your bloom if the deer ate the top of the growing shoot ,. If you are talking daylilies ( a root with a crown ) then if they ate the top inch you should be fine as the scapes come from down in amoungst the leaves so the deer would have eaten only leaves ,However either way or either plant you may want to set up some kind of deterrent as the deer will probably be back for encores.

I've had that happen numerous times since we have so many deer around. Yes, they will grow back in time. Just feed them good and find something that will keep the deer away. The Internet is full of tips from people who have had some success with certain remedies. My favorite is Milorganite. It smells awful but I put up with it just to keep my daylilies. You'll have to reapply every few months according to how much rain you get. I'm going to pick up several bags today. Not cheap but worth it but you may want to try other tips from other growers. My 10 year granddaughter suggests that I sit up all night with a gun! (LOL)

I know how disappointing it is to find my daylilies nipped off. Before I started using Milorganite I went away on a trip and was looking forward to seeing the new blooms when I returned. Deer had eaten most of mine. So heartbreaking! The only upside was that I didn't have many daylilies at that time. Now I have about 10 times as many and I would be totally devasted if that were to happen.

Thanks! I believe they are daylilies... My aunt gave them to me a few years ago to plant, and they were more like a big clump of dirt and roots rather than bulbs. I do normally use a deer spray, but I hadn't gotten around to it yet. I never had them come this early! I guess at learned my lesson. I just hope they come back. Do you have any suggestions for what I can do to help them along? Or just patience?

This is a constant fear with me. We have to put Milorganite and deer spray out all summer. The darn things, they have acres and acres to eat but love my flowers and strawberries. Of course so do we so we use all measures to keep them out.

If these are daylilies cut to about an inch above the ground, they should grow back pretty quickly on their own this time of year.

I've been fighting off the deer for the past several years now, and the various sprays that I have tried from the local nurseries have been almost useless. I've had to spray at least twice a week with them to maintain *any* sort of control, but they left the garden with a garlic reek. (And at twice a week, not only is the extra work obnoxious, but the cost adds up fast!)

Trolling the web looking for solutions, I think that I *may* have finally found an effective spray; at least, so far, the deer have not done more than take a bite or two of the sprayed foliage, and then move on. Give this a try - it has an overall minty scent (with just a slight undertone of garlic which is hardly noticeable) and it is supposedly effective for months. (Paranoid that I am, I am going to spray the daylilies every month, just to be sure.)

For deer: just put a small glob of peanut butter towards the top of bulb that is getting ready to bloom. They try it once yet never eat my day lillies again...bye...bye deer

Sorry but I would not try the peanut butter! Most deer love the stuff. Some hunters even lure deer to them with the stuff. Just google deer and peanut butter for more info.
