WANTED: looking for milkweed seeds or plants

I have been searching for milkweed seeds or milkweed plants for a couple of years with no luck at all. If any one can help me out I do have several "shoo-fly" seeds They are beautiful bushy plants with lovely medium size blue flowers. Please send me an email if you can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Denimrae, You can search members' trade lists. Go to the very bottom of the page and click on "member pages". Click on "search members exchange lists". Use the common name "milkweed" or "butterfly weed" as well as the scientific name "asclepias".

Right now in my garden (starting 2 days ago)I have seed 2 Red Admirals, 1 Painted Lady, 1 Monarch, at least 50 Grass Skippers, 15-20 Long-Tailed Skippers, 1 Pipevine Swallowtail, 4 Southern Dogfaces, 2 Great Southern Whites, 1 White Peacock, 3 Large Orange Sulphurs, and I think 1 Yellow Angled Sulphur! With a lot of Milkweeds can you imagine all the butterflies I would see!? I have an acre backyard. I am also looking for Passifloras and Pipevines too.

I'll have plenty of FN seeds, Hope. The one thing I want everyone to know is that mine came up very, very late in the season. In fact, they were so late, I thought I had lost the plant (which I did, but not the seeds), and I went out and bought 4 more plants! LOL! The seeds that fell on the ground around the plant finally poked up their heads in June! June, no less. Take their own sweet time, that's for sure. But when they did come up, over the month of June, there were lots and lots of seedlings. I now have a very nice patch! Looks like I'm going to have tons and tons of seeds again this year - even more than last year becuase I only had one plant, but this year I have #*$)#(*@% of them. It's nice, though, because you can just tug up an entire seedling and put it in water for the RA's, or put it in a little pot of dirt in the cage. Susan

Asclepias syriaca seed needs cold wet stratification before they will germinate. If you find a ripening seed pod in the fall you can clean the seeds and then sow them directly where you would like them to grow, alternativly you can pot them up and put them in a ziplock bag in the fridge for the winter and then remove them for germination in the spring. If your still in need of some Asclepias syriaca seed let me know as I have more than I need for myself. I do have other Asclepias species seed as well but limited so they would be for trade only.

tiffy!! did you get a response yet? I have seeds of tropical milkweed and would be happy to share. I also have one growing that I overwintered and is growing just fine. contact me and I can send them to you....hmm...wondering if I got the seeds from you originally. :-)
