wild horses- is it slow for you after you move it?

It's drving me crazy! I've had it for 2 years and moved it in the Fall. We had a cold Winter so I'm not if it's just pouting or what!? All of my other DLs are up. I even made sure the roots weren't rotted this morning (they aren't, and I know I shouldn't have looked!). But, there is nothing in the crown at all. No greens! I pulled up a little of the leftover leaves from last year and they were a little mushy, but not the crown. Wah! I want him to grow!

Any input would be great, Thanks!

I've had that experience with a few daylilies, hoping to hear some good advice also. I'm not sure why, most don't seem to notice being moved, but a few sulk the following spring. If they don't die though, they have recovered & done well.

On another group, ( I think the AHS Spider robin?) we have had extended discussions about all of Dan Trimmer's cultivars out of CLEOPATRA, which is notably tender. I got rid of CLEOPATRA years ago and I'm on the edge of zones 6-7. In years when we had severe winters, CLEO would sulk and bloom little, if at all. Of those Trimmer cultivars out of CLEO, I grow two, EGYPTIAN QUEEN and WILD HORSES. ( I think VOLUSIAN SPIDER might also have CLEO in the parentage) WILD HORSES is by far the most hardy of the three. EGYPTIAN QUEEN has always been more "iffy" and does not have nearly the good plant habits here of WH. But that "tenderness gene" is definitely from the CLEOPATRA breeding!

Grass: The Rubber debris and oil residue from the chain drive or bearing seepage are normally wear and tear issues. The slippage as CG indicated is a byproduct of this wear and tear process. You may only require to clean (degrease) and scuff up the friction disc (metal disc) that the wheel drives onto. If the Rubber is not crack or weathered . You may have a few more yrs of life after you clean to inspect further. I replaced my Friction Wheel Assembly last Fall approx 2 hrs & just under $20.00 later in my Garage. Unfortunately my Rubber had cracked. On some models both the Main Drive Axle wheel assembly must be removed to enable removal (Clearance) of the Hex Shaft and Friction Wheel . Not a overwhelming job , just takes patience and pre planning (sketch) of all components and their orientation . If not a Exploded View of the Parts List from the dealer can normally be obtained for reference for removal and reassembly , should you feel its warranted . The most tedious part of the job is securing the self aligning bearings onto the shaft and then securing the pillow block simultaneously . Talk about needing 4-hands. On some units there is quite a bit of clearance and other brands your rather confined. A Sky Hook or a well placed nylon sling and a chain-fall or chain ratchet elevated the blower effectively for the Inspection and Repair. I have made a Repair Stand at Waist Level c/w ramp to save a little on the lower back . Same with numerous Lawnmower Repairs , anyhow let us know how it goes Bro ! :) Note: Take note of the position of the friction wheel and gear position prior to removal to enable correct reinstalltion , to ensure proper gear selection upon completion . Also ensure to adjust the cable and spring tension . I like mine to be a little tighter to reduce the slippage upon engagement . You can validate this prior to buttoning up the Belly Pan .

It looks like all seems going good for you! Originality you said you moved the queen into the hive, now I see you moved a queen cell, queen hatched and she had to go for a mating flight, in swarms like this I usually wait for 2 to 3 weeks before I look for eggs. Eggs are sometimes hard to spot for a newbie and untrained eye. When you moved the hive with bits and pieces of comb with it, bees will always repair and build comb even if there is no queen present. Looks like you have another hive going in the culvert....as I suspected, a handful of bees without queen would not stay and build comb, they would simply move on and look for a home in another hive. Lois - It is realy everything I can do to keep from ordering "something" this year. I am not moving or at least I hope not but Dad is not well and I don't know what is up for the coming year. Many changes I suspect. I am only getting my reserves and some annuals. I doubt that I will have even tomatoes this year unless I grow them on the deck. We are hoping to buy this old house from the rest of my sibs as we are all part owners. I have been here taking care of Dad for 5 years and the flowers are mine! We would like to rebuild and design my new yard/gardens. As it is I will have to move a lot of my Peonies and Irises in order to build or I will be sending a lot of you people some very expensive plants if we don't stay here! Maybe I will rent a field or two. :) Till then, all my babies are in holding beds. :D Ginny P.S. Anyone know where crazygardener has been?

I am going to go out on a limb here and believe we are talking about the screen pointer. That is called a cursor. I like Gene's heat thought. Also, quite often a slow responding "mouse" is a result of lack of system resources. It could be the same here with your laptop's "cursor". In both cases as multi-tasking activities amass perhaps the system can't keep up. A reboot then creates a reset and everything starts over fresh. I have WILD HORSES which I got in late August 2008 from Marietta. It is coming up fine but how much or little it will bloom I have to wait and see.
I've been reading lately about plants which appear that there is no growth from the crown and most people thought the plant dead. Then they noticed it started growing fans from underneath. Odd thing.
Lesson I learned is not to move anything in the fall here which I consider late September/early October. Plants just don't seem to have enough time to recover and suffer the following season.

Hope it comes back. It's one of the dls I'm looking forward to seeing bloom this year...hopefully.

That is a gorgeous daylily. Is it an expensive one? I'm obsessed with horses and would love to have one because of the name. :)

Dani: Really nice pic. I've got mine in full sun but yours looks like it was doing okay. I really hope its just a slow start after the move. Don't give up yet....

buyorsell: It's not an expensive dl and many growers/sellers have it at very reasonable price.

Julie: Nice pic too. That eye is what sold me on getting it.

I have WH. Received a clump of it last spring. It immediately put up 9 scapes which carried several pods for me.

I just went out to count and found it has 22 fans. I didn't count last fall but this is certainly a good increase considering I made it carry pods.

While our winter was not as cold as we sometimes get, we suffered extreme drought beyond normal (until this weekend) and a lot of perennials (roses for example) had more winter dieback than usual. It was absolutely root dessicating dryness.

Mine is also planted in full sun. I'm very pleased with its performance so far and I'm told by other local club members who have had it longer that it does well for them too.
