? on shading with 60/40 fabric for 'Skylands Picea'

Hi,

My new 4' conifer is in an eastern exposure, with no shade on it in the afternoon, and about 20' away from my ranch house, which is too short to cast shade when the sun moves around that side.

So, to give my plant it's best start, I thought of planting some annual sunflowers to cast shade. I don't know if they'll be tall enough in *time*...I'm concerned the conifer may scorch before the sunflowers are tall enough.

If I put up a fabric screen first, then maybe when the sunflowers reach a good height I could take the screen down.

My big question, what is 60/40 fabric that Dave/dcsteg advises to use for a screen? I'm only familiar with sewing terminology referencing cotton/poly. Is it landscaping fabric?

Also, does anyone have a picture of a protection screen they have made?

tia
