A cheery pictorial post for Jean and Rita (and everyone!)

I wanted to post some pretty pictures to cheer up our forum friend Jean who's been having some bad times lately.

She has been so ill and then her beloved cat Ms. Blackie passed away. Then there's our other dear friend, Rita who is having a birthday! And if any of you are in need of a cheering-up, as I am, well then I hope these colorful photos bring some sunshine to you today.

(Obviously, I'm in zone 5 so these were taken last summer...nothing is even remotely starting here.)

Just also wanted to warn you that this is VERY PHOTO-HEAVY.

Oh oh oh oh oh! I want flowers like that for my birthday!!! Celeste, you sure have a way with pictures!

Are those your garden pics? Where have you been hiding these beauties? You and Edward need to get together and make a few hundred calendars! Absolutely gorgeous!!!! Thank yo so much for sharing! :) It is sunny here but windy and cool and we still have snow up here in the frozen north. I have a few daylilies in pots in the garage that are sending up shoots but it just makes me anxious for spring......

Thank you again for being such a dear! I'm sure Jean and Rita appreciate your kind gesture. :)

Each picture is more beautiful than the one before. You are so talented at both taking pictures and gardening. Your flowers are just so beautiful. Thank you so much for posting so many colorful displays! I just love your garden.

Mine is slowely waking up as spring is truely here. The daylilies are slowely starting to grow also. Can't wait for more green.

Mine is a cutting from a dear friend... it's grown in a fast draining medium, very similar to what I use for my bulbs. It seems to like the east window it's in, and has 2 babies growing from leaf nodes. They're a bit too small to separate yet, but I think over summer they will be big enough to take off of the mother plant. I'm hoping for flowers sometime this year, and I'll post pictures when it spikes. It's my very first orchid! My second orchid is a Cymbidium... this one is in orchid bark and a clear plastic pot... it's in the same window as the Epi, and seems to be doing well... it should bloom after it gets exposed to a little cool weather this fall. These are the first orchids that seem to actually be thriving in the less than perfect environment I can provide for them. I plan on adding more Epis and Cyms to my jungle in the future. Both orchid types come in a wonderful array of colors and interesting bloom shapes... and the species types are even more interesting! It's all Cindee's fault, I tell ya! She got me hooked on orchids! I'm really glad, though... they're lovely plants, even when not in bloom! Yours are so pretty in all those different colors! Do any of the colored ones have a nice scent?

We've got rain forecasted through Tue or Wed. I'd gladly send anyone rain that wants and or needs it. I mowed the grass yesterday. What a mess my yard is now. It was so humid the grass never dried but with rain forecasted into next week I decided to go ahead and mow. ngraham, Big Kiss has a tall scape, it really stands out. When the ffo opened last week I pulled into the driveway after work and nearly ran the car right into the mailbox trying to get a good look at it. Just couldn't wait until I had parked the car. Julie, Homestead Farms has very reasonable prices, and the ones I posted were from their sale this spring and I think if I remember right the most I paid for a HUGE double fan was $4. I'm not sure if they are in Zone 5 or not but I've never lost one of their plants. Carriage Ride is not a double, that bloom just decided to be different. Slade Brown was enormous, the flower is nothing spectacular but the size of it was incredible. And that was the ffo, I can't imagine what the rest will be like. I do love Starstruck, it was one of my first dl purchases. jean, I'm looking forward to seeing Hazel & Rosy Wren bloom next season. Lrae, I am a "yellow" person so Hazel was a must have. Rosy Wren just looked different. As with Lilting Belle. I'm not so much into UF'S or Spiders but I think it is going to grow on me. okbt, As I said before it was different so I thought why not and it was on sale to boot. I couldn't go wrong. So sorry to hear that you fell Jean. I hope you are recovering nicely and are able to post again soon. I have been trying to stay off the computer (other than at work) because my hand/arm has been giving me problems. Not sure what is going on but today my screensaver at work came on and it was my daylilies. OH my! How desperately I needed a daylily fix. So I just had to check in a look at some pictures. When I first moved from Ca to the Deep South I was surprised at many words. I had to ask a woman what she was talking about when she kept saying buggy. She explained that means grocery cart. When I heard another woman say, “you’ins” I though maybe she meant a type of sheep?? I asked someone what a you’in was, they explained it’s like y’all. I also was confused when I would help with the dishes at a dinner party and the hostess would say, “Put those casserole dishes up” why would she say up and then point to a cupboard that was down. I quickly learned putting something up in the south means anywhere that it’s supposed to go.

Beautiful pictures Celeste! It has been nice the past few days but overcast and dreary today so these pictures made my day. I especially love the first one. Gorgeous with the greenery in front and the blue mountains in the background. What's the name of the large orange/red daylily with the large yellow eye? It's really nice. Marg

Marg, the daylily you asked about is 'All American Chief'. It certainly is a showstopper when all in bloom.
Jean, I am glad you are feeling better but now I am concerned about your leg hurting so please let us know if that has cleared up or if you are still in pain. We care about you.

Celeste. Thank you sweetie, Yes,My leg is much better this evening. I was up about all night,well, until 7am, to be exact. Could not sleep, so about every hr or so,I was rubbing ASPERCREAM on my leg, and its much better now...

HI Everybody!
Wow, was it warm here the last couple days! Just crazy, crazy for mid-March in New Hampshire...it was in the 70's.
I peeked at some of my daylilies and can see some of them poking their little green heads up just a teensy bit. Of course it can still turn back to winter here at any given moment and we can still get snow even into late April and early May...but it was like fast-forwarding into June!

Jean, I am so glad to hear your leg is feeling better. Goodness, you have had such a rough month. I have had a tough one too (which I won't get into here) but I will be glad to bid March farewell. I feel so bad for you because I know it must be so hard to go outside and Ms. Blackies not there. I would be devastated if I lost my Zeus. He is like a baby to me.

CEleaste. It is very hard to go outside now, that I dont have Ms Blackie to talk to.She would always walk with me and if I stopped to look at some thing, she had to look at it too, then look me in the eye and meow so softly. and the TIGER CAT has not been around for the last 3 days, either.. I love that PINK daylily, and wondering which one it is. FAIRY TALE PINK?, its a beauty.I think it was your 10th picture.I love them lilies, too, all of them.How is Fat Cat Nemo? and zeus? he is so pretty.

Jean...you were close...that pink daylily is 'Barbara Mitchell' which does have Fairy Tale Pink as a parent. They look so similiar to me. Just an all-round great daylily.
The cats are all great. Lily is enjoying all this warm weather after being cooped up inside all winter and Fat Cat Nemo isn't very motivated to go out. That is one lazy cat. He never wants to be too far away from the food dish...LOL. Zeus is great. He is always with me, either sitting on my lap, sitting on my computer desk watching me, or sleeping on my pillow every night. He is the most loving animal I have ever had. I didn't even know Ms. Blackie personally but she was a beautiful, loving friend to you and I feel for you that you lost her. I hope Snoopy is keeping you company. So glad you at least have Ms. Blackie's daughter to always have a part of her.

Thank you, Celeste.Snoopy is not much company, She dont do nothing but sleep all day.She has decided she likes my couch to sleep on for the last few weeks.She was better company before the car hit her and she lost a hind leg.She sleeps all day and runs up and down the house at night.The Tiger cat came back for some breakfast this morning,and some dinner last night, but, now its gone again.Its a weird color with the stripes on the front half and spots on the back end,and its a dark grey cat.I find it very depressing now, that Ms Blackie is not here..Give your kitties a extra hug for me and Ms Blackie.
