Hi Barbara.Thanks for the link.On my plant the needle ends look like they are scorched;then again in the sunshine they appeared copper-coloured.We'll wait and see...I think those mugo's are great.Henk sent me 'Laarheide' and 'Zundert'.Also a yellow P.sylverstis of Norwegian origin.Just waiting for spring so I can go out there and do some gardening.I think we moaned and groaned a bit too much about the continual drought during the past five years .So now we're getting well served...the soil can take no more.Just saw on the news that one of the best known ski-resorts has had upwards of 8 meters (25 ft)of snow.People can't get in or out of the place.That said,I also saw the terrible fire-storm images from Australia...I sometimes think of the fire-hasard with conifers and other inflammable plants.It can get so dry in summer! I'd hate to see those little mugos go up in smoke!!! T.

WELCOME ... first off.. you have me wildly confused ... are you saying you actually walked away from them .. w/o buying ... to research them.. crikey man .. buy first .... then ask questions .. lol ... BTW.. sams link didnt work for me.. i had to use the SEARCH function on the page .. with the latin mugo name.. and up it popped .. the other two.. you are lacking some of the latin ... when i first started.. i was adverse to latin names of everything.. in conifers.. we need full latin.. to be precise .. to insure we are talking about the same plant ... anything that has a beach ball shape.. can be called a 'globe' .. so we need to know what species you are talking about ... below is a primer on conifers ... pay attention to the CONIFER SIZE section ... the annual growth rate is key to understanding how big your plants will be in 10.. 20 .. and 30 years ... most estimates are at 10 years .. and they double in size in 20 ... the yellow mugo looks very nice.. its probably a winter color ... and i dont know about the others.. w/o the full name ... i can speculate.. but why waste time.. talking about the wrong plant ... so.. more info.. and perhaps.. tell us.. what you want to know ... come back often ... we are great enablers ... ken ps: up near your name.. you have simply... 6b ... if you can go to your members page.. and add the closest city.. you will forestall being asked where you are .. It'll be a certain amount of fingers crossed for the rest of this winter and throughout the summer. The mix couldn't be improved to absolute perfection, time & money preclude that. So it's like the best 4 star insurance. I can't stop it raining or cover all the pots so that will have to be; drought is more manageable but the risk of overwatering in the event won't be more dangerous than the rain. Rapid drying out of the top few inches could catch me out, the containers are already mulched well for frost so that will work out. Monitoring the weather for a hot spring (again) will be important. I can water everything in 20 mins before work so no excuse to be caught out. I see no reason to be pessimistic, the possible loss of one or two fussy ones will always make gaps that don't stay gaps long ; )

Hi Harv, You got the correct plant. I believe your coloration is climatic. I haven't propagated 'Marand' in over six years because it does not color up here in Washington state. Since 'Sunshine' is a dragon's eye type of variegation it can be affected by summer heat and growing conditions. Next year the color won't be nearly as pronounced. 'Sunshine' came from Wiel Linssen and when I noticed my plant would have good color two years out of three he told me that is a characteristic of it. It is easy for Edwin to make a mistake since he is looking at a picture of a small plant in a harsh climate. I try not to name plants from single pictures on the gardenweb because it is not always an accurate way to do it. I know I did not send you a 'Marand'. Try some Epsons Salts around your 'Blue Shag'. Not a lot. It will give it magnesium. Chub Harper tried that with his Pinus strobus that were off color and they recovered nicely. It was a soil nutrient deficiency. Bob
