I like to see a close-up of a type of flower/color and a long-shot view with the grouping -- but, not the same flower in a lot of photos.

I like slideshows if the tempo is fast. I can always stop/pause/slow it. More than 18-20 photos starts to get too time-consuming.

I'm trying to use fewer photos in my blog -- make the shots count and not too many. It's difficult.

I recently wrote about a butterfly house, but used only one photo when I have around 50 of a lot of different butterflies and even the chrysalis house in action. Same with the lemurs, I have 30 great photos, but used one in the blog.

Since I visit so many blogs everyday, I get eye candy overload! LOL

I forget to look at the gallery. I just don't automatically check it everyday. I know that's the place for photos, but it's a mental block!

I like a "sample" photo in a thread, then a link to a slideshow.

Small doses for me, just my opinion though. I'm probably the exception since I'm online so much and reading so many gardening blogs everyday. I've stopped leaving comments on every blog everyday. I'm just overloaded right now.

PS When I see that a thread already has 20+ responses, I figure that I have nothing to add and skip leaving a comment. If a thread has 50+ responses, I don't even bother to read it due to all the scrolling and reading to understand what's been said.

I don't really know how many is too many but when I look at photo albums and see 6 pics which are nearly identical I usually just give up and quit looking. Too many other things to look at on the net to waste time on slight variations. People need to choose the very best pics and not post any that are blurry or not very good for whatever reason.

I know doing an album is a huge job, I've done several and need to update/redo mine before showing again.

I'm with Cameron!! You could pick a few favourites, then add a link for those who want to see more. That works for me!!!

Actually, the longer posts I usually have responded to at some point or other. I scroll down to my comment, and continue from there. Sometimes they are really interesting 'conversations'!!

I remember years ago when there was no Gallery on Cottage Garden Forum. GGG (I think) worked hard to make it happen.
I understand the problem with landline hook up. Down load can be a glacial task. But, people who have highspeed are probably the majority now.
I love the gallery and find it my first choice to see in all the forums I follow. Photobucket is just yet another step, and hunt through all the small photos that you may just want to see only one.
I've posted on the Gallery to keep it alive. I'm sure a lot of people find rose photos boring. But as soon as Schoolhouse starts blooming and flooding the Gallery with photos (smile), I'll post a few more till then.

Jim, I've been online yesterday and this morning trying to determine why my photo hosting site suddenly doesn't want to upload my photos, stating they are too large.
Never had a problem before. Blamed it on my new digital camera, but previous photos I uploaded to Picture Trail using the digi have been no problem. Checked all the camera settings, they are the same. Maybe they want me to upgrade from "Free Basic"? ha.

I now have what I call fake high speed...a satellite dish on the roof, but it is a vast improvement over landline.

That being said, I still have some trouble with a long list of photos posted in a thread. I think I like one or two pics with a link if we want to explore the garden further. I just tried that this morning with a response about the lilies.
That way you get a preview of all that's listed in the album and can just pick the ones of interest (usually of of them!) but it does give you an option.

We could post the sample picture in the Gallery to keep it alive along with a link to the album.

I like a couple of teasers here in a thread, with a link to your PB album to drool over.

Schoolhouse -- you can either set the size lower on your digi camera or reduce the size with software before uploading.

My photos can come out of the camera as 3 mb but I reduce them on my camera from a capability of 7mb. The highest resolution is necessary for print magazine quality, but not needed for screen quality.

With software, I reduce them to a fraction of the size at 100kb or so, before posting on the web.

Picture Trail emailed me several times and decided it was their photo uploading feature and corrected the problem. It's working now at least. I'm also learning about changing mb's on the camera. For posting on the web, I always choose "Medium" at the Pic.Trl. site. Thanks for the tips.

I often prefer a few well-selected photos. I still have landline, and yes it does take forever to load up when there are a lot of pics. But I really don't mind; if the pictures are pretty and there is a good variety, I will come back later to look at the rest.

I don't mean to diviate from the main topic, but I have a question for Photobucket users. I wanted to organize my 300 and some pics into sub-albums. It said that if I move a pic to another album any links will be destroyed in the moving process. That means only the links on that particular pic will be destroyed, not all of them, right?

I have "fake high-speed" too, and really appreciate if the photos in threads are thumbnails, or kept to fewer than about 8-10 total. I think that many people are going to end up downgrading their internet connections--it makes sense as a belt-tightening measure.

I prefer to see the cream of the crop, either in a thread, a separate album or the beginning of an album, and then I could choose to see more. Or, the photographer can be asked for a photo showing more detail of _____

This thread has made me think about reorganizing my photos and taking them in a certain way. I just grab the camera and go out.....I end up with a lot to delete.

I am thinking about how I will organize them better so if I want to find a particular shot, I don't have to look through all the years....which I have just done.

I did realize I liked the beds better a few years ago! not a good thing.

theresa, that rosey scrapbook is beeeUtiful. Each of those photos could be a note card. Like the ones you buy in small boxes.

christinmk- Yes, whatever you MOVE...if you've linked to it on these boards or somewhere else, the link will be broken, and the pic won't show up in the thread anymore.

Anything you don't move is fine. If you move an entire set of pix to a new album, then yeah, all those links will be broken.

Coming in late, but here's my $.02... in general, I prefer to see 2 or 3 shots in the gallery, and if there are a lot more, a link to an album. I'm not too picky about album vs slideshow, but usually I won't look at more than a few at a time.

My dad has always said that the secret to being known as a good photographer is that you only show people the good photos. ;)

Frogview: well, I admit that I'll cut a lot of stuff before I go back to dialup, but I used to have better dsl bundled with a landline. I had to accept this fake dsl in order to get rid of the seldom-used landline, which freed up about $50 a month for gardening and other necessities :) . My nephew has a computer at home, but but got rid of his internet entirely, because he keeps his thermostat at 80! I imagine he had to cut a lot of other expenses, too!

Probably everyone who buys music online will make downgrading their internet the last thing they do. That's the worst part of this slow dsl!

Lot of good comments! I have an odd one. Slide shows that move too fast bother my eyes, but I hate too slow also, lol. Even worse are those that have the photos that morph into other photos type of slide shows(does that make sense?) I can't stand watching them. I don't know why they annoy me so much, but they drive me crazy. I'm not sure why, maybe it is sensory overload? Am I the only weirdo? lol.

About Slideshows: Slideshows from Photobucket or Picasa can be stopped and the album viewed, IF the album is made public.

OTOH, an album can be usually be viewed as a slideshow. Sometimes you have to search around for the little button. You can usually adjust the speed if you are viewing an album as a slideshow.

Preset slideshows that do too much morphing and have glittery, shimmery stuff give me an optical migrane kind of thing, a 'mal de mer' feeling. I just stop them and look at the individual pics.
