Oh the deer do get hunted here, by this four-wheeled species. You probably have some hunting where you live as well :-) Seriously, the various hazards tend to take out the older deer here and I usually see young deer only. Once I had a big buck, he was browsing much higher than the smaller deer. I put up my activated sprinkler last night and noticed it went on at some point in the night. I'm going to be moving it around regularly, keeping the deer on their toes. I had a greenhouse water timer unit I put on it so it won't accidentally spray me during the day when there are no deer. Al, I have 1000' of 8' deer fence that I have been sitting on if things get too bad. Its a pain having the whole yard fenced in but I may be going there. I already have one side fenced, its the woods side that deer usually come from. Konrad, I wonder if the sound of the metal alone would scare them enough. I don't want to make too loud a sound but the metal falling would cause the ground to shake I bet. Scott

I think the LA series are very well built and if they aren't abused and are maintained will provide many years of service. They are not like the deeres of old but what is made like the days of old these days? not too many things. I took a LA165 home and used the 30 day promise to trade up to a x320 and am glad I did only due to having 3.5 acres of hills and inclines and I didn't think the LA series was enough tractor. I pull a 850lb yard roller and it's effortless and I weigh 240lbs with 90lbs of ballast in the tires. I think the john deere quality shows in all of their series but you can't compare them to the deeres of the past it's not a fair comparison. I spoke to several of the techs from several dealerships that said they have not seen a x320 in for tranny service in forever if that helps.

We've used just about every commercial formulation out there and our deer seemed to consider it their favorite salad dressing. This year my wife found a recipe for a "home brewed" repellent that uses eggs, garlic, cayenne (she substituted Red Hot sauce) and a little milk. Nothing has been touched! The flower garden is gorgeous (@deervssteve: we put a fence around the vegetable garden each summer - we're believers but not crazy) and it's growing beautifully - even the one tulip that was left over from last year's devastation is standing proud and pretty. The stuff we use doesn't have an odor we notice outside - and just a "cooking with garlic" smell inside when it's being made. However - she sprays it liberally from a pump sprayer with the nozzle removed - and repeats the spraying after each rainfall. Not so much work for the reward in our opinion. Have not seen any damage to any plants from liberal foliar application. Deer definitely will eat absolutely anything if they are hungry enough - we just have to see if they can get sufficiently hungry to chew through egg, garlic and hot sauce!
