I think many daylily people like to buy and sell on the Lily Auction. I would have checked it out years earlier, if it had been called the Daylily Aution, I mistakenly thought it was for true lilies, Lilium.

Anyway, in my opinion it is better to sell a cross individually, just my preference, as often there is only one cross in a group that would interest me. But the plan to group those with one parent in common is also a good one. Some people list by types, such as eyed-and-edged, or by UFO's.

Much better to receive the seeds as plump, black pearls. Not to say that 'shrivelled' ones might not be as viable, just dried out further, and perhaps it would be good to provide (extra) soaking--- note that in the description, and leave it up to the buyer. The important thing is that the seeds pass your 'squish' test!

Bubble envelopes are the usual way, I've never received them in a box, although that would provide additional protection. Many use additional bubble wrap before inserting into the bubble envelope.

I don't like to spend a lot more for shipping than the actual cost, certainly no more than $2--- and it is good to allow people to combine wins in one shipping price.

There is a benefit Hope for Haiti on the LA right now, which is very cool; perhaps you'll consider donating some seeds to that effort.

Michelle: I've purchased seeds and most of what Frederico has posted is what I've experienced. Also decide on how you want payment, ie personal checks/money orders/paypal and be specific about when payment is due.
I would also keep in mind the time of year for when you plan to ship seeds.
Buying those bubble wrap mailers can cost $$'s so shop around. Or maybe someone on here can offer some good places to look?

Ive purchased probable 200+ crosses in the last three or so years this is what I look for...

1. Be a professional, doesnt matter you are not in full time business, try to send items out on a quick basis and be communicative as possible. If easier for you, do sales ending on 1-2 days and ship every tuesday or something.

2. PLEASE make sure you have no doubts about seed viabilty, dont send out seeds that our moldy, squishy to the touch. Make sure you allow all of your seed pods to ripen to maturity before you crop them. Dont try to cheet there, no matter what you do. It takes me one year to figure out who the better sellers are, I usually try a seller once or twice , I spent 50 bucks on one seller this year and none NONE of her crop of seeds she sent has been viable. Im not impressed, I use the same storage method on all of my seeds, directly into the fridge when I get them. She is the only seller with 0 percent viabily on multiple packs Ive recieved.

3. Wrinkled or raisend or plump or fat /small or large, USUALLY doesnt make much of a difference, its just in their genetic code of those parents to produce it that way. However, sometimes the smallest seeds are not viable, sometimes they are.

4. ACCEPT paypal. Some people dont like it, buts its soooo much easier for buyers, it takes them a few seconds and they are done. Now if its a primo cross, Ill write the check.

5. Make acceptable refunds/new ships, Ive recieved some moldy bad crosses this year, the sellers took care of it ASAP. Im willing to offer a digital pic of the bad seeds if need be of what they sent, thats just reasonable.

6. Be careful with your crosses, do a little bit of research, THERE is a pleathera of Stamile / kinnebrew crosses, I jump at the hanson, mason, carpenter , korth crosses when I seem them. Too many people selling the same thing, of course alot of those parents are nice, but its also nice to see different hybridizers being used.

7. dont be afraid to use your own seedlings, sometimes they are just as nice, just provide accurate descriptions and pictures of them. Try to stay away from blurry pics, it doesnt help the sale.

8. Follow this patteren and people will rebuy from you time and again, I make a list of the best sellers IMO every year. Every year 3-4 are usually the same near the top, top notch, professional and passionate sellers, who do not cheat people. RUBY, RICH, YARDMAN, ZJILDGEN, Scooter30 Ive never had a problem with them, with any of thier seeds, always VERY high germination rate. Ive had others who are very similiar and if I keep getting good results will get my business again.

This is all JUST "IMO" Stuff , other buyers might have different experiences, but this is my honest opionion on sellers. Hope it helps.

I purchase seeds on the Lily auction. One of the things I like the best is when a good description of the parents is put on the listing. If you just put their names I can look up the info but having it there already is quicker and in my opinion will get you more impulse buyers. Of course good photos help too. If it's not a good photo say so and always give credit if it's not your photo.
I agree that sometimes seeds off your seedlings can do quite well but have a good photo and some information about them including parentage if you know it.
Wrinked up seeds don't bother me. I have had them germinate the next day. Seeds off different parents are just different. Buyers need to understand that. Seeds don't all look the same. If you feel more comfortable saying these seeds are very small then say it. As a seller you can't give too much information!
Look at daredevil's listings - (her last seed sales for the year end on Friday) or kivariver's - they are wonderful.

3 yr experience with LA.

I buy and sell on the auction. I email buyer on day I've mailed seed/plants. I won on 3 sellers' auctions week of 1/16. Paypal all and asked for shipment. Got email from one and recieved 1/21.

Other 2, I waited. No communication. Emailed both 1/25. One said "On the way." Got it today 1/27. Just fair. Other said "They will be in the mail today." Thats all.

Which one will bid with again?
