KoaL4b3ars i am thinkijng the pot may be too small ? Moringa have ling tap-roots and i remember reading if it touches the bottom of the pot its bad news. i have always had problems keeping them in pots after they get about 2ft tall. they are a fast growing tree,, and WANT to grow fast when young. fast draining soil is great, but, if you dont have something to keep the moisture in, it means you have to water more often. they dont like soggy soil, but they do need water. so, i would water infrequently. 1 or 2 times a week, but, only if you can keep the soil a little moist. Here in New Orleans, it gets very hot and very long sunny days will dry out a potted plant in hours. in the winter (less hors of sun) , with temps in the 60s or less, cloudy days, and some mulch/compost on the top, i can go 3 weeks without watering moringa. so, its not a schedule you should follow, its soil moisture. deeper pots may be needed as well.

I have grown hundreds, if not thousands, of Moringa trees in Southern California. Actually the first Moringa trees I planted were in pots in Charlotte NC. They grew well from June - end of October then a cold snap killed them when we were out of town one weekend. They will grow much faster planted in the ground or a very large pot vs. a small pot. I have included a picture beside an intensive Moringa planting. The trees were planted from seed 4 months before this picture was taken! Yes, you want to eat the leaves for their amazing nutritional qualities but don't eat them alone - they have a very powerful taste :) Add them to smoothies or use as a topper to soups, sandwiches or any dish really. If eaten with other food you don't notice the taste. The less you heat them the better so add them at the end of cooking a dish or eat them raw. For more info check out my website or youtube channel. Trees still look largely green here although they likely will be dropping their leaves soon!

I grow Moringa in the DFW area and have been doing so for about 4 years. It gets too cold in the winter for them up hear but grow really well in the summer heat even without water. You will get much more leaves with a little watering in droughty times. For the winter, before the first frost I dig up the trees leaving 6-12 inches of the tuberous like root, put them in my garage (where it doesn't get below 32 degrees but does get in the 30's. Stand them upright, put mulch over the roots kept lightly damp, then plant them out when it is warm in late April. They are dormant over the winter and as long as they are above freezing they keep fine. I cut the tops off around 6 feet (they will grow to about 15 feet for my largest ones) so when I put them out in the spring the new growth is above the level deer can reach. If you are starting from seed for the first time you would need to water a bit more till established but they will get tall fast. Usually in one year you can get a tree over 6 feet so the next year when you put it out no issues with deer. Now I have had some survive freezing winters in the ground but this is very hit and miss and depending on how cold it gets. I mounded dirt around the crown and some survived freezing temps here. Anyway I imagine in Austin mounding the dirt would suffice with your warmer winters, or you can go the garage route like I do.

I got one last spring. I planted it close to the house for winter protection, since I am in zone 9. That was a mistake! It was about 18" tall, and by September it was over 8 FEET tall. So i dug the whole affair up and planted it out in a field. I did a horrible butcher job on the roots and all the leaves fell off, but the thing is a tank and sprouted right back. It hasn't grown much over winter - I am guessing dormant - and it is pretty sparse right now, but I am sure it will go nuts again once the rain comes.
