When I first bought a house in FL 25 years ago the nurseryman I bought my first citrus trees from said "don't let them bear any fruit for the first 2 years," as they need that time to develop their root system. Younger trees do not have the energy to develop strong roots and produce a good crop of fruit. If this is only their second season in your yard, it is probably too soon to let it bear fruit. Your fertilizing schedule sounds ok, and it does sound like your tree is getting enough water. I suspect that as you begin to harvest the fruit, and as the tree puts out new growth it will perk up again. I'd also limit the number of fruits you let the trees carry this coming season to 12-18, depending on how much it grows this year.

Hi Nancy! How have you been? My Improved meyer is doing so well! This tree has produced so many blooms and it is still growing more buds. I think it has been in bloom for over a month now. My lemons have not dropped either so I think it is happy and healthy. So far, I have not even lost any more leaves. I water with vinegar and fertilize with a product like Superthrive and my parents were able to get the citrus fertilizer on the plane. Last week I also got the Oro Blanco grapefruit tree from Four Winds. This tree wasn't too expensive but the shipping was $40.00. I didn't care for the shipping cost but that subsided when I got the tree. It is almost 2 feet tall and wide. Beutifull dark green leaves and I don't have to wait for the blooms. It came with 11 bloom clusters and most of the branches have new growth and if they didn't have buds, they are starting to grow more. I don't know if this variety is available in FL but it is definetly one of those must haves! The description on the tag says Huge blossoms that are very fragrant along with super sweet fruit that ripen in late spring. I can't wait! I also am going to get another mango for my birthday from Frankie's in Hawaii. I just hope they still have the variety I am looking for! I need to find more tropicals closer. The darn shipping fees are outrageous. frankies charges a handling fee on top of the shipping! I will have to send you an email with a picture when my Oro blooms. I will include an updated pic of my beutifull Meyer lemon tree. Kind of strange how things work out. I was trying to order the Improved meyer online and almost paid $100.00 for a 3-4 foot tree. I decided to contact my favorite nursery in Erie, PA and they told me they had a beautifull Improved Meyer Lemon tree but it was a "tree". I went and saw it and purchased it on the spot. It was definetly love at first site! I wish I could have got my Oro the same size as the Improved Meyer but I cannot complain, my Oro is beautifull! Andrew

seems like it would be too close to the jasmine and large tree. it would be competing for nutrients. i would recommend a different location.

Well first of all, Wow! thanks very much everyone for all your advice and imput, I do enjoy hearing all the different perspectives. I am actually from Australia. on the east coast of NSW. Also why i havnt replied untill now. - I have used seasol fertiliser mostly as well as a citrus fertiliser from Richgrow just a couple of times, but never together. I have probably fertilised them about 6 times all up. around 3 - 4 weeks between. I only get to the property 1 -2 times a week when i will water them but it has been a fairly wet season so there has been many times when i haven't had to. - When the leaves started getting yellow early on i did use Yates Trace Elements to see if they responded but did not notice anything major. - There are no signs or evidence of any pests that i can tell. - I did test the ph of the soil which was slightly Alkaline, i cant remember the exact reading, but i think it was around 7.5 - 8 maybe. so for that i did use some yates liquid solfur to help reduce the level. There are many citrus trees nearby, one neighbours Tangelo tree grows well over our back fence with many fruit. The closest would be our side neighbours 2 citrus trees only 20m away (65ft :) ) which are nice and green with fruit aswell. The major difference between her trees and ours are that hers are halfway up the hill rather then on the flat like ours. I would of preferred to have them further up the hill but with all the building and excavating going on it was not possible at the time. However if it was necessary to re plant them we probably could find a spot for them now out of the way, I have also heard similar things to what John was saying about it been hard at first but once, and if the tress do get established in clay soil they will thrive and become good, strong plants. I would prefer not to move them, possibly mound them up more, but if thats what i have to do to get some yummy fruit, then thats what ill do. looking forward to seeing you you have to say. Thanks.
