June Flowering Shrubs and Vines

I thought it would be fun to start a thread on flowering shrubs and vines with a little info on each of them, we all can't grow the same ones but we all like to look at the eye candy. I'll start off with Kolkwitzia (Beauty Bush), mine is in full bloom now. Here's a pic of the shrub and a close up of the flowers.

Oh, Annette, that is a BEAUTY!
I bet it smells good too. The flowers look like they have honey dripping out of their mouths. (hehehe)

Not sure the variety, but you can find them in the fall at the big box stores. Plant them in full sun to make for earlier blooms. Mine are in morning shade with full sun from about 1pm on. There's white lantana, nicotiana, shasta daisies, and if you have lots of room, datura that will be blooming from here on out. Just be careful with white. Not all whites are made equally. petunias - store bought. Nicotiana and asiatic lilies. Direct sown datura - in March, first bloom just cracked today. The fragrance is intoxicating. Mostly a night bloomer, but can hold up in part shade for much of the day. There's also queen anne's lace, scabiosa, gerber daisies, and other annuals you can choose.

Rosey Glow Barberry - not exactly a blooming shrub but it's new growth is always so pretty.

Christine, I just bought a Rosey Glow Barberry it's going to be quite some time before mine looks anything like yours, your Privet hedgerow makes me think I'm wandering down a country lane in England.
I pulled some pix from my photo album DH put them in a slideshow for me, most pix are from last year.

I should go take a photo of our Bridal Wreath Spirea - they are quite old so are huge and covered in white flowers. I don't have a photo on hand though, and it is thundering outside. Perhaps tomorrow if I remember.

I have a photo of our Magnolia from late May. I don't think the photo does it justice, in full bloom is it just beautiful.

Actually, I saw my first yellow Magnolia tree this year in a garden several streets away. Most people around here just grow the obligatory evergreens, but this woman has a yellow Magnolia tree in her backyard. It is still young, but so unique!

One of my spirea just started blooming, the rest have yet to start but its a great June flowering shrub. The hydrageaneas are just about to start also. Some of the vining honeysuckle are in bloom now also.

That magnolia is just gorgeous! There are a couple I get to see in my neighborhood, so I get to drool over them in spring, which is good since I don't have space for one.

I need to take pictures of my Arrowwood Viburnum. I think it has about doubled in width since we bought the house not quite 3 years ago, and is much more impressive in bloom now.

I already showed the Gardenias. You don't really want to see the Virginia Creeper climbing all the pines. I was thinking last night about whether I should cut it down now or wait for the red leaves in the fall, by which time, hundreds of thousands of berries will have been strewed by birds.

I don't know how I missed this thread......I loved seeing all the wonderful shrubs.

My poor kolkwitzia was knocked over and partially uprooted by one of our many storms. I need to cut it way back and try to raise it up and see if I can save it.

Nell, I love the fall color of Virginia Creeper, but I think I would cut it now.....I have them growing out of the foundation, up the Ash Tree and in some of the flower beds.
Of course, even if you cut those on your property, a bird may replant seeds from far away.

Cziga, I adore your magnolia and while admiring it, I realized I now have a spot for one! The huge Spruce tree that was felled in the front yard has left me a wonderful space. I have always wanted one, but didn't have the right spot. I will search for one next spring.

I have one lacecap hydrangea that used to be under a tree for shade........lost the tree (another wind storm) so now I have to watch it for wilting in the heat.
