Welcome, and please excuse the lop sided gate. I don't know how to fix it!! {{gwi:624472}}

The crazy, barn eating rose came from a GW trader in Florida. It only blooms once a year.

This is the "main" cottage garden area. The first year in a long time it has been packed to the hilt, thanks to the rains we've been having. Please excuse the purple haze. It is from the cover of my camera - but appropriate don't you think!?!{{gwi:624475}}

My camera does just not get all the colors, this is a riot of color right now, in the entire front garden. I look at this photo and see how many improvements need to be made. I need to dig out all the "crap" around the edges of the herb bed and continue that thyme. It's fantastic, and I don't know what kind it is!

Here is the side front bed. This is the first year it's looked decent, but those pink campanulas MUST GO this year. I want to add some shrubs including a daphne. The campanula, iris and a little Betsy Boo pink miniature iris, the daylilies in front and also a small shrub (that I keep removing but it resurrects itself) all came from GW traders!

Were you lucky enough to find a lavender rain barrel, or did you paint it?
I keep trying to get my son to fix one for me, but he hasn't had time for one of his own.
I love your place. The HOA would poop little green BBs if I tried that.
We have hopes of rain today. It has been 90+ days without measurable rain. Hopefully things will look better in a few days.

Oh, garden gates do that. I've had mine for 25yrs. and every Spring (after the thaw) it leans and I have to push it upright again. Not until it gets real bad do I call in someone to reset the post - like maybe every three years. I usually turn my camera so the gate appears straight. ha.

You really do have a cottage garden.

Ajuga 'Chocolate chips' with its steel blue flowers and very dark foliage (Girard's Hot Shot' azalea in foreground): Polemonium 'Stairway to Heaven', brunnera 'Jack Frost', dicentras eximia and spectabiles, trilliums, iris cristata, solomon seal, anemone silvestris, tree peony, fernleaf peony, peony 'Early Scout' (fernleaf flowers + herbaceous peony leaves), daphne Carol Mackie and caucasica(transatlantica), fothergilla gardenii 'Mt.Airy', akebia quinata (looking to take world over) and finally mistery clematis from HD that blooms very early (also being in a considerable shade) on new AND old wood at the same time: I have it for third season, but somehow don't remember it blooming in a summer. Lots of things this week, kind of a waste because it's been raining all week. From memory: white lilac, viburnum carlessi, carlcephallum etc, kwanzan cherry, wild cherry (don't actually know what the heck this is, it's a pretty volunteer tree), kerria, carolina jessamine, short catmint (nepeta), Camassia, darmera peltata, sweet woodruff, yellow alyssum, strawberry, pasque flower (from fall swap), checkered lily (fritilaria meleagris), bleeding heart, aquilegia, violets, money plant (lunaria), asarum (if you can call those brown things flowers!), old fashioned heuchera, ajuga, sea thrift (armeria maritima), and the thugs, Lily of the valley and vinca minor. I should mention that some of the hellebores are still looking quite fabulous - not too shabby since they have been going since February! hanging in there: heath, dawn viburnum, jasminium nudiflorum, winter honeysuckle, tulips, daffs, assorted minor bulbs (grape hyacynth, scilla, etc) & forsythia. Oh, yeah, did I mention dandelions, bedstraw, bittercress, and garlic mustard?

Thanks Inga...I couldn't decide whether to put the C Marlow picture of just the bloom, or the one with the huge bee which was a little out of focus! The bee won...he was having a great time! I went to get a closer pic without using zoom, and it flew up out of the bloom, looked at me, and went tright back to what he was doing! haha You know everyone always asks me if I get stung very often because of all the flowers in my yard, and I always tell them that I rarely (maybe once every couple years) get stung because the bees are much more interested in the flowers than me :)

I am so excited--looks like clear sailing for planting now. Our onions were protected perfectly with that snow blanket on top of the mulch. And the garlic looks great. Now I'm wishing I'd planted more of both. I only have 7 dozen garlic, and about that many onions. I gave some of the onions to a young lady in town so only had that many left. Blackberry bushes are in, carrots and beets planted. I'll plant greens, lettuce and spinach in the mineral tubs tomorrow in a couple of days. And get flowers going. I fell off the wagon and ordered six plants from Missouri Wildflowers: 2 each of rudbeckia laciniata (it's a smashing plant, gets up to 4 feet tall, bushes out--and flowers everywhere--I planted a couple at the school last year); goldenrod; and Drummond's aster. But since I vowed to work on Bermuda in the yards in ground, the only other flowers this year will be cosmos, zinnias, and tithonia.

Plantmaven: a few hours and 2 cans of krylon and you can have a rainbarrel almost any color under the sun. I also use (for clients) a local company that paints their barrels slightly differently. They use a krylon primer but then paint the barrel - exactly matching the house and they make nifty custom risers for the barrels too. This works well for my clients in historic districts or those with HOA's.
I wish I could get a nicer riser for mine. Even just the right size cement without mish-mashing a bunch of odd pieces. If they all looked flat and plain I could simply paint them out purple to match!

Schoolhouse, there is some way you are supposed to crank (or whatever) the hinges on these gates to tighten them, however I have no tool or knowledge of how to do that (I guess I should google it!!!). The posts stayed up well, it's just the silly hardware.
