Help my succulent plant! Please!!

I got my succulent plant probably about a month ago, and it seems to be doing a lot worse than when I first got it. I recently repotted it (about 3 days ago), as its last pot was getting too small, and it's since then dropped a bunch of it's leaves and appears not very happy. I have not watered it too much, as the new pot that it's in doesn't necessarily drain. It's leaves don't dry out, they kind of get all droopy looking and kinda brownish and then just fall off. The soil doesn't seem that wet. I've posted a picture of it in it's current state. If anyone could help me or advise me on what to do I would be greatly appreciative! I don't wanna lose my plant!

Where to begin?

Succulents should never be in terraria, the soil is too organic and water retentive, the container is too large, and has no drain hole. Needs to be put in a small pot with well draining potting medium in a sunny window...That is my opinion, anyway.

Sorry, pot's too big, soil's too rich, succulents don't do well in terrariums at all (sorry) as they get/stay too wet & tend to rot this way.

This plant needs a small, clay pot, just an inch around larger than the rootball (if it has any rootball). It needs very fast draining mix, heavy w/ perlite or pumice. What it's in now looks like heavy, rich, wet potting soil & unfortunately will not help the plant, sorry.

Don't know the plant's ID, but it's definitely a succulent. Basic rule about succulents in regard to watering, is when in doubt, don't.

I live in the great white north now, but got the cactus bug when I lived in Phoenix for two years. I found that I couldn't keep any Crassulaceae outside in the peak of summer, as they all died. It might have something to do with overnight lows being too high for CAM plants to initiate gas exchange ??? Purportedly some people can keep some of these non-cacti outside in the shade, but I couldn't. If you live in Phoenix, go to the Desert Botanical Garden, which is in between Tempe and Scottsdale. Look around for your plants. If you don't see it growing there, it probably can't be done. I didn't develop a good way to deal with this in my little house, but probably the best thing would be to have it inside but in a sunny spot, and set your plant outside again in late September. They should be deliriously happy from then until May.

I don't see the variegation in the leaves, but the scalloped edges indeed look like Kalanchoe blossfeldiana. It looks nice and healthy!

Hi AP,

You can attempt to save your plant, but in my experience, when they look like yours does, it's just easier to get a new plant. Your plant is severely stretched out due to lack of exposure to light. It should be a neat rosette type plant which sits atop the soil (probably some kind of Echeveria).

To try to save yours, the other posters are correct. Pick up a terra cotta pot (I'm guessing, for you, about a 2 or 3 inch pot) and a bag of perlite. Get your plant out of the glass and lay it and the dirt on some newspaper to let it dry out a bit. I would then mix 25% of the dirt with 75% perlite and pot up the plant. DO NOT water it. In fact, how do the roots look? Does it have roots? If they are white, then good. If black, brown or mushy...BAD. If it has no roots, then you can lightly mist the plant for a few weeks. If it does have roots, wait at least 5-7 days, perhaps even longer, to water. Get it into the brightest indirect light you can; supplement with a lamp light if you have to.

PS: Some important succulent "rules"
1. NEVER try to grow in a terrarium...the humidity levels get too high for most succulents
2. Unless you have been growing succulents for a while and know your plants, ALWAYS use a pot with drainage
3. NEVER "water in" a succulent. Always leave an adjustment period of at least 5 days before watering.
