I had a great Birthday. I went walkin' this AM and took the pictures of my street. I then raked the yard...uhh like I do every day it seems. It was so nice to come in and find the sweet notes from my friends here at Cottage Garden. Thank you.

DH took me out to our son's restuarant. The YellowHammer. This is the Alabama state bird. Here is what we had for dinner:

Creamy Cauliflower Bisque

Caramelized Sonoma Foie Gras, Fresh Thyme,

and Fig Vincotto

Molten Âla BelleÂ ChÃ¨vre Fromage Blanc & Prosciutto Truffles

Spicy Black Grape Vinaigrette, Watercress, and Toasted Almonds

Red Wine & Espresso Marinated Elk Rib Chop

Spiced Butternut Squash Puree, SautÃ©ed Swiss Chard,

Roasted Cippolini Onions, Savory Dried Cherry & Sage

Bread Pudding, And Sour Cherry- Pinot Noir Sauce

Grilled New Zealand ÂDunedinÂ Grass-Fed Beef Tenderloin

Herbed Potato & Parmigiano Reggiano Au Gratin, Broccolini, Caramelized Onions, and Cinzano Red Wine Reduction

Dessert was the trio of homemade icecream: passion fruit,pomegranite and orange almond chocolate and DH had the molten lava cake infused w/ bergamot and a scoop of the pomegranite icecream.

I AM STUFFED.

I had leftover meatloaf, a baked potato and cream corn out of a can :o((( OMG Caroline your dinner sounded soooo delicious. Glad you've had such a wonderful day.

I'm so glad you had a great birthday!

As for your dinner--WOW! My DH and I are just going to have to cross a few states and find The YellowHammer Restaurant! That's one awesome menu!

Greg and Joan, I'm looking forward to more pics from you two! Golden Pagoda is intriguing. You don't see that one much, and I bet it gets very prominent points in the Houston heat. Joan, maybe you hire a little crew of teenagers every Spring Break to help you out with those 200 trees! Can't wait to see the blooms that are developing here, and you bet I'll post when I get a chance. Robert, that Lemon Drop is Thornton's and one of only a few big ones I have. It's certainly the "branchiest". That's what you can look forward to in a few more years! Bill, our little guy gets us invited back to a lot of places! We would all love to go back to CA soon. Will definitely let you know if we get a chance. K, glad the seeds are coming up for you; they're the perfect flowers for a Texas drought! Yes, that is TLD on the tree because my memory is just THAT bad, lol. Sometimes I abbreviate and then ask myself, "Now what the heck does that stand for again?" Dave, thanks for the compliments! I'm in Austin. We're 8b but I've seen at least one big plumeria tree kept in the ground all winter in my neighborhood. It can be done in a sheltered spot with frost cloth since our freezes are all short-lived. Mike, I found another possible oh-please-let-it-be inflo today, so I feel like I won the lottery! Hope you also have a great bloom year!

Eva, I'm sorry about the malignancies. We will continue praying for Barbara and keeping her in our thoughts. Thank goodness she will have someone there to help her through the summer. Please continue to keep us updated on her from time to time if you don't mind. Her positive outlook will get her far in her fight. We will be there for her. Linda

What a wonderful birthday dinner. I was really impressed by the great selection of dishes your son prepared and, of course, then had to see if The YellowHammer had a website.

Whoever created the website did a wonderful job. It convinced me that next time we are anywhere in the vicinity of Waverly, we are stopping by, too.

My DH did the website and maintains it for the kids. My son is the chef, DIL is a chef but does all the wine stuff and is the manager. I am the hostess and do all the PR and DH is the "Jazz Man". He has played jazz piano, "straight ahead" jazz ever since I met him in 1970. He does parties and receptions and the kids restaurant every Friday night and all the wine dinners. The wine dinners are all archived in the special events section. My son is really something. He was cooking locally and then went in the USMC and then went to NECI in Vermont and completed his training. He spent a lot of time in the NW in Oregon and WA. He will stay here always near us, he says, and we are glad of that. I am pleased you like the menu...it is even better than it sounds. He would welcome you all , as would we, anytime. c
