I have missed you all!

I really have missed you guys so much these past many weeks.

My garden is so overgrown and shabby, but the flowers are lovely just the same.

My dear MIL passed away quite suddenly on Oct. 11th. It was such a shock and breaks my heart. Her wish was to be cremated and hold a wake instead of a funeral. She was originally from Scotland from a little town called Dingwall. Eduarda has been there many times. She even posted some pics of it on here a few years ago.

The Wake will be complete with a piper who will play "Scotland the Brave" (her favorite) and lots of happy, lively tunes. There will be over a hundred people to come celebrate her life with us. It will be both a joyful and sorrowful time I am sure (Her grandfather was a Piper for the Royal Court in Scotland long, long ago).

((I may post a picture or two when I return.))

It will be a long trip there and back. Hope my joints can deal with all the sitting. (ugh)

As soon as we get back home, I will post some pics of my fall gardens and take the time to got through the forum posts to read all your topics and see the pics (my favorite part).

Bless you, you've had a rough go of it. I am so sorry for your loss, - the memorial service for your MIL sounds beautiful. I think it is wonderful that you are honoring her wishes,

Annie you've been missed too. I'm so sorry for your loss, it's so hard losing loved ones. You take care of yourself and check in when you can.

Hi Rozanna! It is wonderful to see your post. I too am cutting back on the roses. This past summer was hard for me because my Mama died in April...I found her on the floor. So I wallowed in my pity hole like a dog licking their wounds and neglected everything. I inherited 50 quilts that Mama made and about 22 quilt tops. So my precious David built me a quilt frame and I have been quilting Mama's tops! That is very soothing to me, makes me feel closer to her. It helps me accept that she is not coming back. Perhaps now I can sell her house and begin to move on. Today I went out and moved a couple roses that needed to be put in pots and babied for a while. I will go on and accept that Mama is not here anymore. I was her caregiver since Daddy died 6 1/2 years ago. My baby girl is all grown up and living in Arizona trying to land a chemist job. Jobs are so hard to come by now a days. Jessica is a blessing to David and I every single day. I am so proud of her. Again, I am soooooo happy to see you posting. I too will try to post more often. I really need to get out and smell my roses more often...LOL Deb

I keep it going and on the day she is here, she gets to play. She does not have a computer at home. Bob it is especially bad if you need those to WORK! Thank you schoolhouse. I cleaned house most of the day yesterday . My DD came into to town for the rest of the weekend so I have put cleaning on hold. I did walk through the garden this AM with my coffee. I sure have missed doing that. I have some great successes...most notably the 2 climbing hydrangeas and some significant failures...won't catalog them here yet. I have transferred about 150 of the pics....a lot more to do before that task is done. GGG I sent you an email. It sure has been a rewarding experience in so many ways. Nancy thankyou for that link, The custom one looks like a perfect idea. I have a LOT of text though. Will it support that much writing ? Could you ask your friend ? How long a book can it be...I see that it holds a lot of photos... Annette thank you I am glad to be home. As Dorothy said..there is NO place like home. Good Morning, Everyone! Thank you all for the "welcome back". I missed each and every one of you. Stormy here today on this Good Friday. Dark and a bit chilly out. Good weather for gardens though. Glad for the rain though. We've had high temps and high, dry winds this past week and wildfires every day. Nothing close to here, but close enough that I could smell the smoke. My dogs erupted in chorus with every firetruck that passed by over on the highway.(hehehe). I took pictures of the gardens on the 31st. Glad I did, as the hot, dry winds dried out all the pretty yellow Jonquils later that day. Blasted hot winds ruined them before our Easter Sunday family picnic and egg hunt. They were magnificent in chorus with the yellow forsythias, white Bridle's Wreath, and Redbud trees now in full bloom all over the garden. My beloved Jane Magnolia is breathtakingly beautiful this year and smells so wonderful. I planted out some Orange Perfection Phlox yesterday. Tried them last year, but they didn't make it. This rain may ensure these do. I dug around in the bin at the store until I found one, just one package with moist peat inside. Holding it up to to sunlight, I could just make out something possibly alive in that dark green plastic bag. Makes me mad to pay five bucks for dead rootstock. They are not the best looking root stocks I ever saw, but think they will make it. I only need one to survive to establish a nice clump this year for next year's blooms. I also planted a package of purple Liatris and a package of Freesia bulbs for summer blooms. I love the smell of Freesia. Yummy. All the Peonies are up and beginning to make tiny flower buds. Hopefully the red ones and deep magenta ones will bloom this year too. If they do, it will be their first time. Some deer came into the yard this winter and ate the top branches off the one surviving River birch sapling, but it is recovering nicely now. I caged it with a tomato cage and for now they are leaving it alone. They are "camped" up on the hill, hiding in wait for my juicy, delicious roses to start blooming, no doubt. :[ I've been taking the dogs for walks up there every morning and hopefully their pee and poop will make them think twice about coming any closer to the back yard. My English Shepherd could easily take down a whitetail deer. DH said this weekend he would finish stretching field fence around on the inside of the existing barbed wire fencing to keep out critters. That won't keep deer out, but it will keep our dogs in, so we can let them run loose on the property. That will be great. They need the exercise and I need them to do their job protecting the place. They love it, too. Hopefully the raccoons & coyotes will take the hint. Keep Out! Anyhow, so far so good. Gotta go check on my chicks. They poopy up their water really fast and will be ready for breakfast. :) Talk to you guys later. ~Annie

Annie - so sorry for your loss, but what I lovely way to remember her!! You should try to bring some white heather home with you. It should grow for you, and is very symbolic!!
"Most Heather is purple in color, but there is also rare white heather. Rumored to grow over the final resting places of fairies and only where no blood has been shed, the plant is said to be extremely lucky. Queen Victoria introduced carrying white heather at weddings for luck. Some Clans have attributed victory to wearing white heather sprays, or evading capture by hiding in patches of white heather.

Annie, what a sad time for you. I am so sorry for your loss. I think Nancy's idea of bringing back some white heather is lovely as is the story-thanks for that, Nancy!

I watched the musical Brigadoon with Gene Kelly on TV not too long ago and the girl gathered white heather for a wedding.

I actually just came over to this side of the forum to see if I could find out where you and several other missing members went to. Glad you are okay! The forum just isn't the same when the whole group isn't together. Really sorry about your MIL. :-(

I do know what you are going through and my heart goes out to you. Mother went to a nursing home, but it was in essence hospice care. It will be a very sad time for you all.

We know these things come to all eventually, but it doesn't make it any easier.

I will be thinking of you.
