I do that all the time, I wouldn't pay it unless you actually submited it. I think they know that many people do this, they may be trying to take advantage.
I wouldn't pay it if I were you it may be someone trying to scam you. Wait and see what the e-mail from the company says, and be sure you are e-mailing the company from their website and not replying to the e-mail that was sent to you in case someone stole this info.

How did this company get your address? Did you give them that info? I would adjust your computer's cookie allowance!!
My sister said she always thought it was a coincidence when she would receive a catalog from a company she'd just visited on the 'net. No coincidence!!
The companies put information on your computer and leave it there, sometimes to even track your purchases or guide you to their website!! Pretty sneaky, but they get away with it!

And how about this: I was looking up 'tree dahlia' on Ebay and later got one of those courtesy calls from security on our VISA account. She read off the charges, all okay except a mystery $3.00 charge from Ebay. I am not into Ebay, never go there except that once, or if a Google search sends me to a link there. She informed me that there is sometimes a charge for 'reading' their website.
What a scam that is, I didn't even get to look at many flowers except the tree dahlia!

Poochella! That's a scam. There is no way you have to pay for reading a site. I became disgusted with ebay for just the type of thing you describe. If you were a regular ebay user, you could report it but ebay is pretty automated, it's not like you'd feel you were talking to a person who understood. Wow.

Are you using internet explorer for your web browser? If so change to firefox/mozilla. You can download there browser from their site, it has better protection from this sort of thing and works the same as internet explorer. You won't get popups unless you want them, no adware,no spam it's the only way to go. Check it out.

This $3.00 charge sounds like a scam. Ebay has no way of getting your credit card number unless you give it to them. Neither does anyone else...UNLESS someone put spyware on your computer. I would invest in an anti-virus program to check for that ASAP.

Also, if you have some kind of auto-fill program that remembers your personal information, like Gator, get rid of it by going to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. It's not safe to have ANY program remembering your personal information, even IE. Go into IE's preferences and disable AutoFill.

Good luck. I would call your credit card company and have them check to see if that charge really came from Ebay. I doubt it did. There are hundreds of scammers that mirror Ebay and other sites, in the hope that you will stumble onto their site through a fake email or a web search. Don't trust ANY site unless YOU typed it into your browser. Links can be disguised and are not to be trusted.

Contact Ebay too. If they charged you, they will be able to tell you, and if they didn't they will want to know that someone is scamming you in their name.

Good advice Christine. I don't know that I ever actually saw the charge on the final bill, this was over the holidays when spending was a blur. I should check into that. But it was read off as an Ebay fee by the courtesy security caller.

It's a shame that something as useful and powerful as the internet can be turned into a scam grounds by the likes of the people you refer to. I much prefer real worms and dirt.
