The only dwarf citrus rootstock that does well in Arizona is Flying Dragon. Cuban Shaddock is a pretty poor choice for high pH environments and you will be endlessly fighting chlorosis and poor growth. You should apply sulfur and chelated iron every four months to the drip line, following the directions on the packages for application. I usually apply epsom salts at roughly a tablespoon per gallon every six months. Another option is monthly foliar feeding.

You could use it but I do believe that MeyerMike said before that it is not the only fert that Four Winds uses. Since you are probably growing in a container you might want to be careful about the higher phosphorus level (you will just have to make sure you flush you plant a couple times a year). There is only one company that I am aware of that sells a water soluable fert in the perfect 5-1-3 ratio that citrus like and that is Jack's Professionals (J.R. Peters Co) 25-5-15 w/ trace minerals. The only complication is that they are a commercial supplier and you would have to buy a 25 pound bag. It is not the best formulation but it works and it was on sale at my local hardware store. If you check out their website they actually make several fomulations that would work for citrus (specifically the green, brown and gold colored bottles): http://www.dynamiteplantfood.com/products.html I believe all three of those options contain micronutirents and and the nitrogen sources are low in urea (if the nitrogen source is high in urea you will run into problems with 'beirut toxicity'). Make sure you are using both a slow release and water soluable fert as citrus are heavy feeders. Joe

A one year old gold nugget on the left, 2 year old kishu mandarin on the right. The plants were ordered a week and a half ago and 3 days later, showed up on my doorstep. The gold nugget has yellowing leaves but nothing serious. Kerry at four winds advised not to plant these till spring and that they would be fine in their containers till then.

The premium are in a #3 container and are 30-36 months of age, which is closest to bearing age. $40.00 Vladimir, The entry size are $22.00 12-18 months in age and are 12"-18" tall.. The choice size was 18-30 months of age and 18-24" tall.. If I remember correctly they were sold for $30-32?? Lauren, most of the premium size that I have ordered had more branching and looked fuller except for the Marumi Kumquat that I ordered in premium size, this spring from FW'S. It was close to the exact same size as the choice size Nagami Kumquat that I had ordered last spring. It was obvious that just prior to shipping they stuck it in a #3 pot as when it arrived I took it out of its pot and all of the loose soil fell away from around the pot.. As a side note, I do believe every variety grows at different rates though and a lot depends on rootstock compatibility , weather, feed etc..
