has anyone had sucess with just supplemental lighting?

I was wondering.....Has anyone had great sucess with no sun on their trees with just supplemental lighting. Lets say at least 12 hours or more. Is it possible to grow citrus or gardenia under just suupplemental lite?

Or do they need both sun and extra light through the winter to be happy or at least survive?

I really need to know, since I am afraid once my plants come in for the winter, I won't have enough room for all my plants to be in front of full sun windows...Man oh man. I have way to many trees, and the local greenhouses won't even let me rent at least a tiny bit of floor space for even a price.. Wouldn't you think so since their heating bills are through the roof and it helps both them and those who would like to winter their plants in their houses for those of us that have little room???/ Crazy

I have 3 greenhouses closing most of their places up because they are so broke for the winter.
