Picea omorika - black spots on branches

Does anyone know what these black spots are on the branches?

Not all branches have these spots.

I have 4 picea omorika and 1 did suddenly die about a month ago. The one the died had been fairly pathetic since getting it from FF last spring.

All of these trees are suffering so some degree (mostly on the bottom) from wind burn after a couple months of high winds ... at least I believe thats been the cause of the browned needles ... but I don't recall seeing these black spots on the branches before.

Last summer, the wind burn mostly went away in the summer when the winds died down.

I've been impressed with how tough these conifers are, considering how dainty they look. Last year the spring flush on them was excellent.

Should I be worried about these black spots?

Anything I should be doing ... yes, I know mother nature would normally do nothing!
