If you had just one citrus reference guide....

I hate to ask so many dumb questions on this site and I consider this site my best reference source. However, I wonder if any of you experienced citrus growers have a "go-to" book, reference guide, website that you go to get all the basics and much of the advanced knowledge with regard to citrus.

I know there can be no "one size fits all" guide. However, I have been dissapointed with the few books I have picked up on the subject.

Not what you are looking for but I have spent hours reading citrus descriptions on the site listed below.

Make sure your plants have stakes or cages that will handle the vines when they are 2 or 3 times the current height. I'll let someone else address the Brandywine issue. The link at the end of this post gives url's of several good tomato databases, as well as two books about tomato varieties which you might want to look for at your local public library or bookstore. Re. Patio Hybrid, some quotations from various databases and vendors: ===== Patio F1 Hybrid Determinate The very compact plants, about two feet tall, are a very reliable producer of lots of tomatoes the size of tennis-balls (or larger), and have attractive dark green foliage. Although the plants are determinate, they produce so many tomatoes that the sheer weight of the fruit may pull the plants over, so it's best to give them some support - a stake or two will suffice. Tomatoes are ripe in about 70 days after transplanting out. ===== Hybrid. Early small salad tomato with red, 4-ounce, tennis-ball-sized (or larger) fruit. Dwarf, 2-foot plants developed for bedding and containers with dark green, bushy, potato-leaf foliage. I felt so sad reading these heartbreaking posts. I am crying. Our beautiful semi feral cat disappeared about 2 months ago, She " adopted " us 18 months ago when we saw her catching and eating rats in our garden . she came from nowhere and has gone , I posted on social media and in the local paper , and got a reply from someone about a mile away , that she has been seen in gardens over there. She is very nervous , though she let my partner stroke her when she was here. She seems quite young though fully grown and she had a luxury pad here in the conservatory , with several cat beds and a duvet and plenty of food my partner bought her . She seemed to trust us though seemingly petrified a lot of the time. Its such a worry about what will happen to her. Maybe a dog or badger chased her. We always had indoor cats before , only let out under guard! I am a widow and found this man who also loves animals and wildlife. We were happy, We cant get another cat due to our age and the thought that somehow she might return. I am praying and hoping.

Good guide or reference for pool maintenance?

TroubleFreePool.com is an excellent resource for operation and maintenance of pools. Unfortunately the site is down today, hopefully that is just temporary. The best thing you can do is buy a quality drop-based test kit. That is the key to understanding what is going on with your pool and adjusting the chemicals to compensate for it. The TF100 (link below) is great, there's also a kit by Taylor that is supposed to be just as good. Here is a link that might be useful: http://www.tftestkits.com/

Hi Kate, I've tried to think of a way to answer this since you posted it. Unfortunately it's as thou I were asked to pick my favorite child. I just can't do it. I'm lucky enough now to have some incredible roses. Healthy, vigorous, beautiful flowers of all different types and colors. Can't pick just one no matter what. Some wonderful choices in this thread.

Jaybird, I would of been thrilled just to read a book like "Citrus For Dummies", lol..

But I have to give all the credit to this site and "Tapla" with tons of reading behind me..

There's a fantastic little book called "Biology of Citrus" which, if you want to buy it, is unfortunately quite expensive. If you can find it at the library, it's worth a read. The history of citrus in the first chapter alone is fascinating.

The book I reference most is "Growing Citrus" by Martin Page.
Amazon has it and you can scan several pages from it. Good photos and information.
Also check some previous threads for good reference sites.

I actually purchased the "Growing Citrus" book and was a little dissapointed by its depth. It was ok, but seemed to only hit the highlights in some places

Yeah the Growing Citrus and about another half dozen popular guides, coffee-table style booklets, etc are not in depth enough.

I'm ready to order Biology of Citrus. I'm hoping it will answer all my *very specific* technical questions I have been unable to find in research articles ... of course I'm dreaming. At least I'm hoping it will fill the missing knowledge gaps and perhaps identify how citrus DIFFER from other foliage, especially other fruit trees.

I'm hoping it's as technical as The Citrus Industry Volumes (of which the first two volumes are now free online at http://lib.ucr.edu/agnic/webber/).

Every once in a while I do a search for the whole collection of the Citrus Industry, but it's just so darn expensive.

Biology of Citrus is very technical, but it's also only about 220~ pages. I still have my library copy on-hand so if you give me an example of what you're looking for, I can see if it has the kind of answers you want (before you spend the money on it).
