Dig you notice the browning of the 'Gold Cone'? The 'Aurea Robusta' and 'Glauca Pendula' also look unhappy in the conditions there. If the Turkish cedars keep developing they will overwhelm that planting location. They should move them.

The pinyon pines and junipers look much better suited. I didn't see any of this when I was there because it was a long time ago, when the garden looked pretty raw.

I'd say the cedars look a tad burned as well. Maybe from the cold. I'm not sure which zone this is but I am guessing it's fringy for cedrus.

Thanks for the pictures. The cedars do not look good. Maybe the blue/green will come in as the weather warms but not looking too good.

I'm curious about the Cedrus. The company I work for has an office in Denver and I believe one of the women I talk to out their stated that the Denver area had a few nights in late Dec or maybe it was early Jan of -15F/-26. I'm not sure if that was at the airport or in town? Anyway for what its worth the blue atlas and deodar look good if they came through those temps. I've never seen a Deodar in Cleveland, but the Blue Atlas are being planted like crazy and that is about how the majority of them look around here after -15F.

Also last week I picked up an order from Iselis in which I ordered a Cedrus atlantica Aurea Robusta and its even tip burned from its winter in Oregon. I'm not that worried because Its minimal and they do flush out quickly, but that Golden Deodar isn't that much worse from what I had brought in from a much milder climate. Its still a very nice golden color. But are you sure thats Aurea Robusta in the photo above? Its very blue- or is it just fried?. Mine is much more golden.

'Aurea Robusta' is a blue Atlas cedar with yellow on top of the branches. One in Seattle's Kubota Gardens Park was 69' tall a few years ago.

I believe the color on the cedar is not only caused by cold weather. My deodars some winters look just like the ones in the DBG and temperatures just reach 0F. The trees in town never have any issues, but my trees are planted in an open location. I also believe the soil I have (clay) just makes things worst.

Hardiness varies with form of Deodar being grown. Some forms were burnt by above 0F temperatures during 1990 in Seattle. This includes large, long-established landmark specimens. Other, named forms propagated by grafting are known to be extra hardy.

Yellow forms will be likely to be more delicate where the leaves are all or partly yellow instead of green; this is common among white- and yellow-foliage conifer cultivars.

Another thanks for posting these pictures!! I've been to quite a few arboreta and botanical gardens, but every one I see gives me more ideas. Just looking through these threads you've posted has given me inspiration for my gardens. I wish there were more posts like this.
