Ants on my potted orange tree

Hi all-

I bought my boyfriend a Louisiana Sweet orange tree a few monthgs ago. We put it in a huge pot and it currently gets lots of sun and water. I have been using liquid Miracle Grow on it and most of this time it's been nice and green.

But within the last few weeks, fire ants have started living on it. The leaves are shrivelling and falling off and the ants are everywhere on it. What should I do? What kind of ant killer should I buy? Also is there a better fertilizer than what I am using?

I also want to transfer it from the pot to the ground, but I don't think any of that ground is remotely suitable for anything except concrete to grow in it...

I appreciate any help! Thank you.
