Yay, you will get flowers sooner is all I would think. I'm sure the rest of it will continue to grow but it may end up being a bushy one rather than a tree.

Barry that is funny. I saw one in a hanging basket the limbs were below the pot flowering. Make sure you show pics of this baby flowering. Hopefully they will not be longer than the plant.

I had a baby Charles Grimaldi do that and it aborted a couple of the buds and I pulled one off and let the last one bloom. It was in a fairly tall pot and the bloom was just off the table top. It hasn't tried any more since then so I am just letting it grow.

Oxmyx that is the trouble with above-the-y cuttings. If it's one of your first cuttings you're excited to just see the blooms earlier, but once you've had a few you realize that now you'll have to wait longer to get that big tree standard that we all desire.
You want to concentrate on giving that one mostly nitrogen fertilizer and stay away from the bloom booster. The goal is to grow it fast & hot vegetatively so that you can get it big enough to send out new basal shoots. Those are what will skyrocket in height up to that big gorgeous tree like in the pictures. Planting it out in the ground speeds it up for me. :^)

Personally, I'd get out my tweezers and pluck the blooms out when they're big enough. It's a little tiny to be cutting a branch off each. I'd wait until each branch hits at least 4" and I'd leave one of those lower branches that are growing, if only to help with photosynthesis. You'd be working on sculpting a 3 branch plant at first. Just remember when it gets bigger, that 1st Y is going to get higher up to. Measure it's progress, I'll bet that in 2 months you'll see the proof.

You might want to wait longer to pinch back, if you want to hold that height down...It'd do the roots good to. Karyn says they actually 'like' being root bound, that's something I wish I knew 2 winters ago.

You do wonders with your pictures/program. - Nice work.

If it insists on blooming, which it might, just put it up on a tall stand so the flowers hang down & you will have a "tabletop" brug. It will probably grow a tall straight stem later on. Enjoy your early flower, the rest of us usually wait impatiently for a Y. I had one with flowers longer than the plant was tall, the flowers were laying on the ground & got bruised.

I've had a few that decided to bloom while the plant was still very short. The bloom was longer then the plant and the pot had to be elevated to keep the bloom from draging on the ground. It didn't seem to hurt the plant but it didn't look great.

Thanks all. This one is a NOID pink that I got from a friend. it was an experimental, very green shoot. I will just leave it and see what happens.

SS this is a near end cut. it was a green shoot, there was no Y. The plant had many y's. I found that after this particular brug Y's it can bloom at any leave axis. you can see this on my little cutting. there is a flower bud BELOW the Y!

LOL...I think you are going to enjoy the heck out of them when they open...

I didn't know they like to be root bound either. My tiny little plant sure did look funny in that big old pot all summer til it got bigger, lol. Good to know since I am going to have many more this year!

I think that's great! A pink brug that doesn't need a Y to bloom and it's a bush...you'll have flowers in spring outside and it aught to be a good size by then.

I had to wait until late Sept for my first flush
and early Nov for my second of which half were brutally masacred and that was Charles and Frosty. Not so lucky with the other ones but they have way better root system for next year. And I'll be fertilizing much more next year!
I or mother, did water every day in Summer and maybe that's why I had the surface sprawling roots. It's not terribly hot here either, not much hotter than 90-95F.

I'm hoping my 3 Y cuttings make it.

I haven't found any high N with low P and K content fertilizer except in grass fertilizer. If you do this just remember how much bigger it's going to be before spring.

sandy I use nitrate of soda, as a supplement, when necessary; available in allot of garden centers.
