acs vs bcs database

are they EXACTLY the same .... if i search one.. do i need to search the other???

one thing i have run across .. too bad the labeled pix cant be linked or searched .... i mean .. too bad there isnt a database record for every picture at the site ... ohhhhh.. for lack of a volunteer, i am sure ....

i am trying to compare inventory lists with known data.. as you probably know.. its hard to find info on the newer stuff ... but once in a blue moon ... there are pix ... but no way to search the sites.. unless you know a way that i dont ....

go figure..

The answer is "go figure."

Also, Ken, Bluespruce53 and I discussed this here live on a thread because he's donated so many photos and so have I, "time" is a better word, it was learned that they do not share data in any shape, way , or form. "go figure!"

Ken, It is not your computer, there is definitely a scrolling issue. Bill, I believe you're using frames on these web pages, and the frames are not large enough to hold all the information, so they produce their own scroll bar. If you program the frame to auto-size to content, you should not get scroll bars. Or turn off that function in the frames. A few other suggestions: 1.) It would be nice to see the name of the cultivar in bold at the top of the page in a header that is always on top. 2.) I would like to see additional botanical info, such as: a.) needle length, number, persistance (in years) b.) cone description, color, length, persistance c.) bark and twig descriptions, color, etc. d.) any other general propagative info e.) natural range of the species(where applicable) 3.) Additional cultural info, such as: a.) soil / nutritive requirements (i.e. preferred soil PH, prefers sandy soil, etc.) b.) light requirements c.) moisture requirements d.) special considerations (i.e. tolerates wet soil, is sensitive to windy conditions, etc.) e.) major pests and diseases Hope this helps! The furnace model number with the XR16 is an XC80. Very similar to the XV80 but communicating. Must be a mistake. TCONT803 is a fine thermostat to use with the XR16 air conditioner and furnace. Overall, I do not agree with the equipment matchups proposed with the furnaces and air conditioners. Oversized furnace on both systems, and oversized coil to achieve marginal efficiency gains on the XR16 system. I realize you may not understand all the implications of oversized equipment, but it is a big deal for comfort, efficiency and reliability. With reasonable electric rates (which I assume would be cheaper to operate a heat pump with than an 80% gas furnace with your gas rates), and a mild winter climate, a heat pump would be a good option in my opinion. You can keep the gas furnace for backup, though it may not see much use, and doing so would not allow you to leverage the tax credit since you'd need a variable-speed fan which boosts the efficiency for higher SEER equipment. What you would potentially install is a heat pump and a fan coil inside, and that would take care of the heating and cooling and could keep you the tax credit if you choose the correct components. A contractor should come to your home and discuss all this with you and hopefully do a heat loss/heat gain calculation to determine the correct size equipment. I'll attach the link below where you can see what is a rated match (just a tip: keep the model numbers as simple as possible; for example, a Trane may be proposed as 4TWX5036A1000A, but in the database it only reads 4TWX5036A1 -- if you are having trouble finding results). The first link is for air conditioners, and the second for heat pumps. Your 58STA is probably not in the database because it isn't variable speed. Just so you see how it works, look at heat pumps and type in 4TWX5036 for outside and 4TEE3F for inside, and you'll see possible indoor fan coil matchups and their ratings. Follow-up: We decided to go the heat pump route. I realize it's slightly cheaper to heat with natural gas right now, but also remember the days not too long ago (2005, 2008) when natural gas was 3x more expensive. In the end, for less than $200 we added the flexibility to switch over if the pricing warrants. Cheap insurance against future (inevitable) spikes, IMO. I was thinking of initially setting things up so that the HP & furnace each run about 6 months a year (thinking that will maximize the lifespan of the system with a minimal energy cost increase.) Good idea? Maybe we should just always heat with whatever the lowest cost option is and not worry about how many months each piece of equipment is working? Anyway, I didn't want to leave without thanking everyone (especially tigerdunes and neohioheatpump, both very active & helpful participants in this thread.) This forum has been an excellent resource, not only for the comments related to our specific situation, but for the wealth of information on virtually any HVAC topic!

Ken, Bill Barger set up both the ACS and BCS websites using the same format, and also allowed the BCS to link into the conifer database mainly as a favour to me, as I am of the opinion that his database is setting the standard as the major tool for listing and registering all conifer species and cultivars. Unfortunatly it seems not everyone here in the UK shares my enthusiasm for the database, comments I get are 'its too american' they don't seem to understand its there for all to operate and use. so yes! it is the same database. Also the conifer intoduction link is the same by courtesy of the ACS. All other info is mainly tailored to the individual societys, although I think ours is somewhat lacking in this respect, I have long since given up trying to get BCS members more involved in our own website, hence the reason it has become somewhat static of late.
Dax - to say that the BCS does not share data in any way, shape, or form, is a bit misleading. I am sure we would be happy to share any info we can, as long as it doesn't involve you lifting our whole photo galery for the database without permission.....only joking :o)

hi BSpruce ....

have you ever noticed.. that the complainers.. are NEVER the volunteers ... including me.. but i try not to complain ...

in all garden clubs.. there are many peeps who drive me insane ... they get some authority .. and wield it to my dismay at times... and i have trained myself to ALWAYS remember .. that they volunteered to help.. and i better be happy.. because there are too few of those peeps around ... besides.. i dont want to get recruited ... lol ... though free speech abounds.. frankly .. if you dont have anything nice to say .. keep it to yourself .... dont you agree ...

anyway .... i knew barger was involved ... i figured registration material should not diverge.. depending on which side of the pond you are on ... and i am glad i dont really have to go back and redo all the research on a different site ...

now ... any idea how to search a picture name on either site... or will i have to volunteer for that project... lol ... dont hold your breath ..

Just don't start calling them "perps".

Yes: We are a culture of spectators. Most are in a club to be entertained, quite comfortable letting a handful of members do all the work. I guess if they keep paid up that's all you can ask, the next level down is that nobody joins (or renews) and the club folds.

ACS is also used in other posts for ADDICTED CONIFER SYNDROME ...

took me a while to figure that one out.. lol ...
