Brug pics! - and some OT

Hey eveyone! The cool weather and much needed water has waken up a lot of plants. We've been having some dense fog here the last couple of days. Not as dense as we usually get it, but it is persistant and keeps everything dripping wet and moist. If you've never been in dense fog, come down to the San Joaquin/Sacramento vallies in the wintertime! It becomes so dense at times that it persists for weeks on end (day and night). Quite a delight - for visitors mostly, but for my brugs too, since they are cloudforest plants after all. Here are some pics i took a moment when the fog cleared before the sun set. The pictures were taken with my phone, so the quality is quite poor - sorry.

The first one is of a cyclist in Roeding Park here in Fresno. This is a mid-day shot during one of our week-long fog spells. This isn't even dense fog, that comes later in the season.

The first of the plants is a NOID white brug that i grew from seed.

Then we have Mina Lobata (Ipomoea Lobata). This is a volunteer vine. I remember giving up on mina lobata seeds last year, only to find one sprouted this year and is putting on a spectacular show right now! I will have LOTS of seeds (hopefully) in a little, so i can share with all of you.

Very nice! I love that white brug..she's purdy! I would love to get some mina lobata seeds from you if possible when they are ready :) Maybe I have some seeds you may be interested in for a trade?

Lol, I will stop coloring too when it all gets one color. I just have this big black patch in the back. They found something on the cat scan last night they need to do an MRI and get a closer look at it near the pituitary gland in his brain. I have been so worried I am exhausted. I couldn't even tell what I was trying to say in that last post. He is still very tired too. I hope we can still go this weekend but waiting to hear from the doctor if its ok or not and see how we are both feeling. He is in denial of course and outside working in the heat so I am watching him close and making him come in for breaks and drink water. I think he had heat exhaustion He passed out and had a siezure. Sure wish the ER doctor had told me more before she ran off and left. My sister's daughter in Georgia just had a baby and they had to remove her gallbladder this morning so she might be able to come either. Whats that song about if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all? Lol, things will get better. Just soooo tired.

Karyn, I believe the yellow flower is called a dahlberg daisy. It is a perennial, and I think I am going to move it because it is getting way too big for the narrow bed it is in. The big brug by the house is my NOID white from last year, it is the fullest brug I have and looks like it is going to give me a nice flush if all the buds hold. Shawn

this is my first year for gaillardia's & coneflowers & I really like them. My eggplant have done the best in years, I am making eggplant casserole tomorrow, mmm. I have tried 5 different hostas, & guacamole so far is the only one really making it here, the snails have tons verbena to eat so my hosta is safe for now. The butterfly bushes have been HAMMERED by spider mites & they might all be replaced with cannas next year. I am so tired of spider mites. tim

Kylie... yeah... and he'll cook the steaks and buss the tables. Hong... don't kid yourself. You seem to have the gardening under control. I loved seeing your plants, flowers and hardscape items. Thanks for the nice compliment though. The big trophy was not for me... don't I wish! The Ryder Cup is a team golf competion, played every other year, between the United States and Europe. It is easily the greatest event in professional golf and one of the greatest events in all sports. It was played, a couple of weeks ago, in Louisville, KY, where the U.S. won for the first time, since 1999. It was incredibly exciting, even for people like me, who were there working 14 hour days! Anyway, I got to have my photo taken with the trophy, upon its return to the PGA of America's headquarters, here in my hometown. Bob

Your scenery is gorgeous! You definitely have a green thumb! That mina lobata is so beautiful! I grew one from seed. I had it growing with my BES vines that took over the trellis. It got one bloom the whole summer. I dug it up & am overwintering it. Hope it makes it.

Gorgeous photos. Your white Brug seedling is gorgeous. I love the green midribs that travel to the throat of the flower. Very pretty.

I'd never heard of Mina Lobata (Ipomoea Lobata) before. it is a very beautiful looking vine. Great job on finally getting that one to grow. It looks incredibly healthy.

Even the foggy picture looks nice, but do not have to have it lol like I would love to have some of those grand looking plants. wow. That NOID Brug of yours is very pretty Josh.

After seeing this and that it is bare out in my yard. I know that winter will not be so bad after all. Cause you can supply us with a dose of fresh flowers here and there :-)

Daniella, of course. I can send you some seeds when it makes some. I've noticed there are lots of seed pods forming, so hopefully a hard frost won't knock the vine out. I'm guessing they are as delicate as morning glories when it comes to frost.

Theresa and Elizabeth, i can't take any credit for that! lol. I really neglect my yard a lot so whatever credit there is to give would go to the climate and the recent warm spell we've had. Theresa, If your mina lobata, doesn't make it (and if my mina makes seeds) you are welcome to have some.

Mary, Eloise, Tj and Lucy: of the ten brugs from the same batch of seeds (three years ago), this is the one with the greenest midribs. The others have a fainter color. There was another that was yellowish and some are almost pure white. It is also the one with the largest blooms. I gave the rest away to family and friends this past thanksgiving (they were about 7 feet tall a piece).

And to all, i can take a couple of cuttings from this brug to share with you all. It wouldn't be until after Christmas though. Just let me know if you would want that.

Josh~Thanks for warming up my day, we have been in the 50's today and it has not warmed up much.We had are first freeze last night.All your pics look great and I really like the one with the fog.

Josh, I think your pictures are great! I love the fog picture. I am glad you got your mina vine to grow even if it was a surprise. You should be proud of your brug that you grew from seed! Beautiful! Now the one I am going to look up to see if it grows in my zone is the Callistemon. I REALLY like that!

You always have the best pics! You are a quite talented photographer. I like the 'mood' in that first photo.
That is a beautiful Mina Lobata vine. I bought some seeds last spring and they didn't ever sprout for me either. I soaked them but I wonder if there is some other trick to getting them to sprout?

yeah, me too..I want that weather too! I'll even take the fog, I like fog in the morning..so just send a little, I don't want it 24/7 lol
