Is it too late to air layer a Meyer lemon?
Comments (1)GA, where are you located? Perhaps if you're in z8+ you can get by grafting now. I've never grafted anything, but have seen posts where ppl tried grafted in NOv and the project was unsuccessful. But some ppl lived in cold climates which may have had something to do with it. Perhaps someone else who grafts plants can help. Toni...See MoreMeyer lemon air layer help!

Comments (8)Just wanted to give everyone an update. I am very happy with how my Meyer Lemon cutting has grown since the pics (repot) above in March. I really do like these pots a lot. I have been watering every 3 days, I give the cutting 1 tbsp foliage pro / gal once a week, and just try to give it as much sun as possible. Seems to be doing very well....See MoreMeyer leaf browning tips
Comments (20)Stick: how old is that Meyer...? [you stated that it is really "OLD"] Could it possibly be a non-"Improved Meyer"? If so, it probably should be destroyed. ! ??? I found this article below... and a discussion on this forum: http://homeguides.sfgate.com/called-new-improved-meyer-lemon-tree-59193.html The improved Meyer lemon tree is a virus-free version of the Meyer lemon tree imported to the United States from China. The original Meyer tree was banned from commercial production decades ago. It took many years to bring the new, improved cultivar to market, but it's steadily garnered attention from horticultural and culinary enthusiasts. A California grower discovered the virus-free strain of the Meyer lemon tree in the 1950s, and by 1975 it was certified by the University of California and released as "Improved" Meyer lemon (Citrus x meyeri "Improved"). All commercially grown Meyer lemon trees available now originated with that clone. The improved Meyer lemon gained popularity as gourmet chefs discovered its unique attributes of sweetness and fragrance, and incorporated the fruit into their recipes. Its hardiness and ornamental characteristics make the Meyer lemon attractive for growers and gardeners and this: [yikes!] from 2008: http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/1804499/meyer-lemon-vs-improved-meyer-lemon citrange2 Meyers Lemon was introduced to USA from Asia and later found to be a symptomless carrier of the citrus virus Tristeza. This does not affect Meyers Lemon in any way, but can allow the disease to be passed on by aphids to commercial citrus varieties which are affected. The virus can be eliminated by various laboratory procedures such as heat treatment and shoot-tip grafting. Clean Meyers Lemon was propagated on a large scale in, I think, the 1960's and all old line Meyers should have been replaced with the new 'Improved Meyers Lemon'. Certainly, no old Meyers should now be sold in the USA. There is no difference between 'old' and 'improved' Meyers (apart from the lack of Tristeza). They are the same variety....See Morestickstring ( Sonoma County, CA 9B)
