Good job so far. At least the white noids are easy to replace lol. You never know tho, sometimes they will send up a sucker from the bottom at the last possible second. Are those baby cockatiels? How cute!!!

Most of those cuttings look nice and healthy. There's still a chance for the other two. Hopefully they'll make it. Your babies are so cute! Well actually I think that before they get fully feathered baby birds are so ugly they're cute. lol Are they cockatiels?

Cute little babies. We had a customer come to the shop today that said he was on his way to find a pair of cockatiels for his wife for Christmas since she has always wanted them so my husband let him have ours. They were his kids birds that we inherited when they grew up and moved out so glad they are going to a good home where they will have the attention they deserve. My quaker parrot is enought for me to take care of.

Yes Karen I have to agree with you they are so ugly there cute, you should of saw them a week ago. Yikes!!!!! I have 8 Cockatiels now. These are out first babies to hatch so we are very excited. I have the 5 kids 8 birds lots of fish (two tanks), now I just need the English Bulldog (for wonderful hubby) and then thats it!I'm the one who cleans up after everything. Will always have lots of room the the plants and seeds.

Thank you F4F. wow that was so nice of your husband to buy you the Hawiian Double. Do you own a pet shop? Anyhow today the kiddies were so bored with being home from school and this is only day 2 of vacation we have three weeks to go. I told then lets do a project, I got coffee filters, sandwich bags and seeds and we all chose some so I should be having some more babies pretty soon to care for. I work for a school so when the kids are off I'm off gotta keep busy or I'll get bored.

No we own a mechanic shop, our customer just mentioned that he was going to a pet shop and we inherited the cockatiels from our son who didn't take them when he grew up and moved out. I'm glad I gave them to this family. The man and his daughter came to our house to pick them up tonight. They are a surprise for the wife but the daughter was in love with them before they left here. They will get a lot more attention there. I bought the Hawaiian brug for my husband because thats where he is from and likes my brugs and it was a good excuse to buy a double off of ebay, lol. Keep those kids busy nalani. Thats a pretty name by the way.

Had to give "budgie" away (yea I know, it's like naming a dog "dog") He wasn't cared for - so I said I'd take him - before I checked with hubby - hey, ya ask forgivness rather than permission. Hubs was ok with it. I loved the daylights out of him and I think Budgie felt the same.

He was fantastic - he was whistling Mozart because I played it on my flute around him. Wouldn't stay out of my hair though. Liked hiding under my hair at my collar. Don't know why.

Had to gave him away because hubs (now-EX) said Budgges wouldn't make it to CA. We gave him to Hub's cousins. . .well. . .tragic and horrible end and I railed at hubby that I would have rather taken the chance on Budgie moving with me rather than leaving him with is f**kwit cousins.

Hence why I had the "outdoor" bird fettish - and hubs never said a WORD to me about it or tried to stop me.

Wish I could have one again. They're so friendly, and open, and honest. Like a dog.

We ALL lose cuttings! It's a given. Just remember - there are more where those came from & then some! lol! And your cockatiels are adorable!! I have a pair - Ricky & Lucy! Bet you can't figure out who I named them after? lol! We 'adopted' them two years ago. Two weirdos in our city of 9400 were raising them to feed them to boas. A friend of mine worked for a rescue group here in our town. She & her 'pals' confiscated every animal the two guys had & placed them for adoption. The pair cost me fifty cents (my adoption fee). Best fifty cents I ever spent!! :) The two freaks were found guilty of multiple charges & received time in prison. One got eight years & the other one four years. Stiff sentences - but well deserved! It took alot of time & patience with the two new additions to the family - but now they're happy, as they should be.

just curious, what are you supposed to raise to feed your pet boas? Not saying it is right to breed nice birdies for them to eat, but what are you supposed to do in the land of the free? Are mice ok??

The two had multiple charges each. Maybe they had a history of such behavior or long extended prior records. Only way it can be explained I guess. Maybe it's the way the laws read in each State - who knows? Look at Mike Vick - he got 18 months for his participation in the dog fights & his inhumane way of killing the dogs. That was a sad case! I just think it's sad the way some people treat defensive animals. I mean seriously - animals love you, even when people don't!

That's really terrible what people do to each other and to animals. Saw on the news not too long ago where a guy had fed the family's newborn puppies to a boa in front of his toddlers. Just terrible!!

dweeb, your x was really full of it about moving with birds. My husband and I are both medical travelers and have moved all over the united states with our 3 parrots. It is really funny our Amazon will never stay in his carrier if he is in a car and we are moving, he will chew his way out or find a way out every time. He gets out and wants to ride on the steering wheel. Very hazardous lol. I don't know about moving with fish tho. Cats are easy, just bring a tupperware litter box that has a lid-keep litter in it, and a scoop handy. When you make a rest stop let them go in the box. Works out easy lol.

One thing I would like to know is the details.

If the guys were inhumane, they deserve penalties.
But, I will not, cart blanch, sanction an attitude that, maintains animals have rights under the law. If this was so, we wouldn't be allowed to eat chicken, fish or cattle.
Have you seen the lives of the animals that we eat? Now this is inhumane, and yet most of us eat these animals. And what about hunters? I think we should lynch (sarcastic) a person who kills a cute sweet doe just for a trophy, yet it is allowed under the law.

I believe that a person should be allowed to have a snake for a pet. Snake deserve good treatment. Snakes are animals. Snakes are predators. Someone has to either raise or collect there food. Is it ok to raise cute mice to feed them>?

Why would someone get such a harsh treatment for raising food for the pet? Were they cruel to them? What were the circumstances where two me get more jail time than My friend's granddaughter's Mother's killer?

Who decides what is humane and inhumane? And what is the criterion we use to decide. This is a slippery slope. Watch out, some day it will be illegal to slaughter chickens.

SJN - yea - I would have rather Bugges took a chance with me than had stayed. I was told he wouldn't have made the 4 day trip - it would have been too much for him.

Re: The cruelty by people some times just amazes me. Some people seem so normal - and then you find out they're missing some pretty serious marbles from their collection. It just boggles the mind.

Re: Funny story about dangerous animals - in Ca - they had to broadcast on the radio trying to locate someone who broke into a house to please, please PLEASE - never mind the other stuff they stole, but please return the spider that was stolen.

The owners said there would be "no questions asked." Apparently it was some Venezualian (or whatever) variety that, in it's own habitat, is at the TOP of it's food chain. Apparently spins webs, and eats BIRDS and catches rodents and bats. LOL. . .thinking about it reminds me of that movie Arachnaphobia.

Guess it was very large, really aggressive and the bite can kill. I was laughing - those stupid burglars - probably thought they stole a large tarantula, boy were THEY going to be in for a shock if they tried to handle it. LOL. . . .payback for stealing. (grin)

And then there were the nitwits who had several snakes escape - they were some wierd snake variety that can stand on its tail and reach up over 6 feet. Great. . just great. Dingalings.

oxmyx, yes a very slippery slope indeed. You forgot about the poor fish! LOL. Hooks in thier mouths, people slit thier bellies open and gut them while they are still flopping. Yes we are a big fishing and hunting family here :)
I agree that the chickens that are raised in tiny cages where they can barely even stand up, so they can be fattened for market is inhumane. I am sometimes guilty of not knowing whether the ones I buy are free ranged or the prior. I feel bad for the cows too. I used to work in a hospital near a large meat packing plant in Kansas at one time. The details are really disgusting-not only concerning the meat but the workers/health issues and horrible accidents in that place- now that really made me want to become a vegan! But I am not a vegetarian and love a good steak once in a while so I am just as guilty as anyone else who isn't lol. There should be a better way. I think they should be at least raised humanly and when slaughtered for market..at least in a quick way.
This reminds me of one of my son's teachers who said, she used to live in the Middle East and when the Prince would visit, the people would line camels up on the side of the road and tie them down and cut their heads off right there, to have a feast/celebration!

That is really creepy but funny about the spider burglars...Imagine it getting on the loose and breeding all over the place. We would all be in for a big shock. No telling what species get into the U.S. and how. I think it might be cool to work at customs in somewhere like Miami just to see what all people are smuggling in by ship! There should be a reality show on that LOL!

My dd wants a snake! It is a tiny albino looking cornsnake I think. She keeps going down to the pet store to see/hold it. The worker told her she can feed it frozen 'pinkies' (baby mice). I love snakes but this is gonna get bigger lol. Can you feed a huge snake frozen mice when it is huge?

No, then they move up to frozen rabbits, large rats and such. I guess everything has its place in the food chain but I certainly don't like to think about it. What if there were still dinosaurs, we might be supper tonight!
